Formula One: Red Bull’s Rift is “Very Satisfying" For Other Teams
Once again, the Red Bull had been able to get a lot of media coverage and attention. This time it is not actually the win that they have claimed last week, rather it is the chaos created within the team during the British Grand Prix that has magnetised the entire media.
Mercedes GP CEO Nick Fry commented on the situation of the team saying that it is "very satisfying" for the rest of the teams the way the Red Bulls are publicizing their rivalry. He thinks that their internal rifts are going to be helpful for the other teams.
Evidently, there is a lot of disturbance in the Red Bull camp lately, but now after the team bosses took off the new lighter front wing from Mark Webber's RB6, at Silverstone last Saturday and had it fixed to Sebastian Vettel’s car, the rivalry has ignited even further.
Well, after all the scene created at the track and the gossips and speculations that have followed, now the Red Bull Team boss, Christian Horner, has announced that he would soon have clear-the-air discussions with Webber, who seems much hurt and frustrated after the incident.
For the sports world and especially for Formula One, this kind of biased behaviour by a team for one of its drivers is not something new, as similar incidents have occurred in the past as well. Last year it was Brawn GP, where Fry was being accused by Rubens Barrichello of favouring Jenson Button. However, now Fry thinks that Red Bull is causing their own problems which are going to benefit the other rival teams.
While talking to Autosport, a weekly magazine of motorsport, published every Thursday in the United Kingdom, Fry said that he does understand that it is a tough time for the Red Bull team. He has his sympathies for them but on the other hand, he thinks that it is their own fault, as they have been shooting on their feet themselves. He added that looking at the situation from outside, it seems that Red Bull is causing problems that they actually need not.
The team obviously has the fastest car and both their drivers are in the best possible form, they actually should have been way ahead of the rest of the teams, which they are not. There is technically no stopping to them but only their self created issues.
Fry proclaimed that they are actually beating themselves, which is somehow a benefit for the rest of the teams and a big disadvantage for themselves. He added that it is a shame for them, that they are behind McLaren in both the Drivers' as well as Constructors' Championship despite having the best car on the grid.
Furthermore, Fry warned that if Red Bull would not be able to get their air cleaned, they would end up falling further behind McLaren or even behind some other teams as well.
He added that from outside, it is hard to tell what is actually going on inside the team but regardless of anything else, the team needs to help the two drivers have a good deal of discussion. Only then can they resolve their personal clashes, also the team management needs to trim their strategy, so that the situation could be controlled right now before it gets too late.
Well, the Red Bull fans as well as all race lovers hope to see the team having their issues fixed before the Formula One caravan heads towards Germany for the next race at the end of this month, as this is the only way how they would be able to beat McLaren.
