Formula One: Schumacher penalised after performing a dangerous manoeuvre at the Hungarian Grand Prix
The former world champion racer, Michael Schumacher is facing all the toughness of life these days. As he has already admitted the fact, that his days of prime are over now and he is racing because racing is his life. Currently Schumacher is struggling with his form and this is a major cause that might create a bit frustration for him.
In a very recent race, the former world champ German racer performed a very dangerous manoeuvre which resulted in a very serious penalty for him. During the race, while protecting his position, Schumacher pushed and tried to block the way of his former partner Rubens Barrichello; leaving him very close to the concrete wall at a very high speed of 180 km. The incident happened when Barrichello tried to take the lead over Schumacher’s Mercedes to clutch the 10th spot in the race.
Schumacher tried to block his way by making him getting very close to the concrete wall. However, Barrichello got lucky because the wall ended just at the right time. Schumacher’s move brought the audience and the race stewards a sudden shock because it was unexpectedly dangerous. The frustrated move by the champ driver of Mercedes GP team has given him a penalty of ten grid places at the next Grand Prix, which is no doubt a strong blow for Schumacher and for his Mercedes GP team as well.
Schumacher is considered as one of the fastest drivers in the world, he has created marvels in the world of Formula One. However, he is now facing all the criticism after making such a frustrated and crucial error. After the race, Barrichello expressed his views with anger and told that it was one of the most dangerous experiences of his life and Schumacher should be black flagged for performing such a dangerous move. Barrichello added that there should be a limit and everybody should take care of it instead of battling and charging to such an extent. He said that the rivalry should be on the track but today it went a bit further then the expectations and he was very fortunate because no accident had been occurred. It is to be remembered that Barrichello and Michael Schumacher were team mates in the Ferrari team and they are very well aware of each other’s negative and positive points.
On the other hand, Schumacher tried his best to defend himself and said that it was not an intentional move, as he was trying to keep his spot secure from him. He added that he was giving Barrichello a very clear idea of changing his route but Barrichello kept his way and everything got really close and dangerous. The seven times world champ, Schumacher expressed that in a race drivers have to make certain moves, sometimes to keep their position secure and what he did is very common. Later he added that it was a very tough and tight move made by him but as it is proved that the racing is all about leading and defeating the speed of others, so that is why he made the race not an easy pill to swallow for Barrichello.
The former chairman of Formula One Driver’s association, Wurz, who has also been a former Formula One driver for McLaren, Benetton and Williams, expressed his views regarding the incident. He said that, Schumacher is no more fit for driving as he was very well aware of what he was doing. Wurz, bluntly said that Schumacher had a very clear sight of Barrichello’s car and he did this act intentionally, so he should be penalised. After being criticised by almost all the racing critics, the Team Mercedes GP is still backing its driver. The head of Mercedes motorsport Norbert Haug, expressed his views and said that it was a very tough move but thanked God that no accident happened. He added that on the fast tracks of racing cars, incidents like that could happen and Schumacher’s move was not illegal. Haug later added that he is disappointed with the penalty that Schumacher will have to face.
In Formula One racing, incidents like this often happen but this incident has given birth to a new hot rivalry between the two former team mates Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. Now the world will definitely witness some great and blunt competition between these two veteran rivals.
