Formula One: Sebastian Vettel fell in love with Suzuka, Japanese GP
After winning the race at Suzuka, Sebastian Vettel said that he had fallen in love with the circuit after racing there for a second time in his career.
Sebastian led his teammate Mark Webber enabling his team Red Bull to score a 1-2 finish and confessed that the whole weekend was incredible. The German driver scored a pole position with a victory the same day.
The whole weekend was quite dramatic as the qualifying was postponed until Sunday just a couple of hours before the race. The drivers were bound to have a hectic Sunday but Red bull managed to keep its momentum and for that, Vettel dedicated this victory
to his team.
The young Red Bull driver has driven on the track only 2 times and managed to win it on both occasions. It seems that Suzuka and Sebastian Vettel have the same connection as Fernando has with the Marina Bay at Singapore. However, the Japanese Grand Prix
was without a doubt an unforgettable race with a unique schedule and exhilarating atmosphere.
Vettel thought that it was obviously an incredible day for the team this past Sunday, as they had a great qualifying session with both drivers in the first row and a 1-2 finish giving to score a perfect score.
“It was down to the team they have been working very hard and most of the guys didn't sleep from Thursday to Saturday so it was actually good there was no quail so they didn't have to touch the car and get some sleep and I think they deserve it today,”
said Vettel.
The Japanese Grand Prix was clearly Red Bull’s turf as the high-speed track was leaning towards their side since the first practice session on Friday. Both of the drivers’ enjoyed driving at Suzuka especially near the end of the race when their cars were
getting lighter.
Robert Kubica challenged Sebastian Vettel in the first corner but Vettel managed to hold him back and since then, the German took control over the Japanese Grand Prix. He is now just 14 points short of his teammate Mark Webber. Sebastian Vettel is currently
in 2nd place tied with the Spaniard Fernando Alonso.
Lewis Hamilton on the other hand, had a disappointing Sunday and this time, it was not his fault. Lewis received a five-place penalty, as he had to get a gearbox change due to some transmission problems. He had an outstanding qualifying session as he qualified
behind the Red Bulls in 3rd place but had to start from 8th place on the grid.
“I had a good start which was obviously the key from the clean side. I could see Robert but got a bit of momentum and it was too short for him into turn one. The safety car stayed out quite long obviously with the incident with Kubica then after that
both of us were able to pull away from the field and then just control the pace until the end,” said the race winner.
Sebastian faced some problems when he was stuck behind Jenson Button. The German had to wait until Button pitted in order to take over the lead and after that, the race was pretty much one sided.
“I'm really, really happy and it's about time! It is the first time I have won a grand prix for the second time so you have to fall in love with this track,” he added.
Sebastian Vettel is now 14 points clear of Lewis Hamilton in the drivers’ standings. After a perfect performance at Suzuka, Red Bull is now 45 points clear of McLaren and it seems that they have gained enough ground for at least one race. Red Bull is in
a comfortable position now as compared to the past couple of races however, the championship is still not over and they will still have to keep their eyes open if they want to secure both titles this season.
