Formula One - Skimming through 2010 season chart-topper Lewis Hamilton’s performances
The World Champion of 2008 is shinning on the track once again. The 2010 season had seen the British racer, Lewis Hamilton in a great from and spirit right from the beginning. As the year twirled and twisted from one track to the other, championship had been seen changing hands between Mark Webber of Red Bull and Lewis Hamilton of McLaren.
Earlier this year, the Championship was very strongly gripped by the Red Bull racer whose hold was seen loosening as both the Red Bull drivers bumped into each other at the Turkish grand Prix, which granted a one two finish to the McLaren men.
Similar race results at the Canadian Grand Prix granted the top place of the charts to Hamilton who was able to grab it tightly till the summer break of the season. At Hungry, just before the teams packed for their summer vacation, the Australian driver of Red Bull claimed back his top position sliding Hamilton to second, but only for three weeks of the break. As the cars now returned to the track, the McLaren star was quick to demand his lost throne back.
Currently, Hamilton stands at the top of the Drivers’ Championship having bagged a total of one hundred and eighty two points with thirteen races of the season already gone.
The year had been a great one for the racer having seated at the peak of the points’ tally more than any of the other drivers as well as showing a great form and spirit right from the start.
The first race of the season saw the twenty-five-year old racer end at third place after having started the race from fourth grid position at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The following race held in Australia did not give him the desired results but still he was able to walk out with eighth points after having the race finished at sixth place. This was pretty good finish for him as he was not able to do well in the qualifying and had the race stared at eleventh place on grid.
The Malaysian Grand Prix proved the racer to be a real asset for the team, as he had a miraculous race starting it from twentieth place and crossing fourteen drivers in between to have it finished at sixth place once again.
The brighter side of the season began for the driver at the Chinese Grand Prix, which marked the first second place finish for the brilliant racer. However, the bright stars faded soon as the next round of the season, the Spanish Grand Prix did not grant any points to the happy go lucky racer, leaving him on fourteenth place after he met an accident on the track.
The round in Monaco saw the driver at fifth place earning ten points making his total collection of the season up to fifty nine.
The next race started a new trend for the racer’s battle for the title. The Turkish Grand Prix held at the close of May brought the first win of the season for Hamilton, which was largely granted to the McLaren due to the in fight of the Red Bull. However, both the McLaren men were able to maintain the pace in the next race as well thus producing a back to back one-two finish in Montreal as well.
The following races saw the driver have more great finishes at European, British as well as at German Grand Prix, as he ended at second place twice and once at fourth, even at the time when he kept declaring that his team does not possess the fastest car on the track.
His long reign at the Drivers’ Championship was lost in Hungary when Webber claimed his top place back pushing the driver to second.
Now at the thirteenth race of the season, when all the top five drivers as well as all the top three teams are equally competitive and striving for victory, the driver has once again proved to be able to pull rabbits out of the hat when required, by earning the third race win of the season and his first ever at Spa.
