Formula One: Special Report- Peeping into the Brazilian Grand Prix 2009 (Part 1)
The Formula One caravan is once again ready to enter another very exciting and thrilling round of the season. The second last and 18th race of the 2010 calendar is scheduled to take place this Sunday at the Brazilian soil. The entire season has
unfolded in such an awe-inspiring and intriguing manner that now making any predictions for the upcoming race is a too brave thing to be done.
The top five drivers including, Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel stand 42 points adrift each other. With only two more races to go and 50 points to play for, the race fans have kept their fingers crossed, hoping to see their
favourite drivers do well.
The last race of the season, the Korean Grand Prix, held last month marked the most unexpected and entertaining episode of this year. The newly built Korean International Track saw some of the best drivers of the season, slipping and sliding off the track
every now and then, owing to the newly laid asphalt layer and the wetness of the track due to heavy rain fall. Three of the top five drivers, Webber, Vettel and Button packed the day without having bagged any points.
Now, as the rally of cars gets prepared for the next round in Brazil, another very nerve tickling and jaw dropping round is expected to be witnessed. The Brazilian circuit, Interlagos, has played a very significant role in the Formula One championship in
recent history of the sport. The last five seasons saw the Championship of the year being decided at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Now as another very exciting race is to be staged on the track this Sunday one cannot help but recall this part of the season last
year.
As the cars head to take rendezvous in Brazil this year, the top drivers remain more or less similar to the top drivers of last year. However, the man who shone brighter than all the others is somewhat in the biggest trouble this year.
2009 saw Button’s stars shine as bright as they could. After having bagged six out of the first seven races of the season with the rookie team, Brawn GP, the British driver secured his championship right at the start of the season. After that, all he needed
was some decent finishes to keep him at the top and he was successful in doing so. However, the qualifying was poor one but then, not to forget Button had a great car, a good form and a lot of luck with him.
After having started the race from 14th place on the grid he kept on escalating, and over taking many of the other drivers, he finally ended at 5th place, all that he needed to keep his championship secured. However, this year even
ending at the top of the podium would not help him, unless the other top three end off the podium.
The race winner of last year’s race in Brazil was Mark Webber, bagging clean victory after having started the race from 2nd place on the grid. Though this did not help him much for the championship was already decided, yet it was no doubt a big
day for him. This year Webber stands at 2nd place in the championship tally with his 220 points. After a very discouraging race in Korea last month, he not only came out pointless but also had to give up his top place in the charts to Fernando Alonso
of Ferrari. However, recalling the last season in Brazil, the driver seems pretty confident for a great finish again this year.
To be continued…
