Formula One: Team Red Bull has a disastrous Korean Grand Prix
Team Red Bull, after an astonishing qualifying session had to witness their worst nightmare come to life on Sunday during the inaugural race at the Korean International Circuit. With both drivers starting from row 1, the team had to face their championship
leader Mark Webber’s retirement after just 2 laps in to the race.
Mark Webber crashed out of the Korean Grand Prix as he lost control of his Red Bull car and spun off the track taking Nico Rosberg slide with him to the opposite wall to retire on the spot. This was a proof of how dangerous the track was during wet conditions.
The drivers were already complaining that this is the slipperiest track they have ever raced on but there was no solution, as the race was set to take place the very next day. This retirement confirmed that Mark Webber would lose his lead if Fernando Alonso
or Sebastian Vettel finishes the race with good points.
Meanwhile, Sebastian led the race quite comfortably and managed to stay ahead of the pack even after the safety car period. However, Red Bull had to face another disappointment as Sebastian Vettel retired after leading the race for over 75% of the time.
However, Sebastian Vettel retired due to mechanical failure and it was quite a disappointing sight as the German driver worked so hard for the inaugural race and had to throw it all away just because of an engine failure.
If Sebastian Vettel stayed in the race, he would have taken the championship lead from his teammate but the young driver was unable to score a single point. Same is the case with his teammate and Red Bull had to walk away from the Korean International track
pointless.
Nevertheless, Fernando Alonso won the race to take the lead in the drivers’ championship while Lewis Hamilton finished in 2nd place and is in 3rd place in the drivers’ standings. However, the reigning world champion Jenson Button was
not able to score a single point either as he finished in 12th place after a disappointing race.
Red Bull will have to make some modifications and come up with a strategy that would favour both of their drivers if they want to win the drivers’ title this year. Team Red Bull was able to maintain its constructors’ standings lead but their gap with McLaren
is now down to 27 points. Therefore, Red Bull will have a tough break before the Brazilian grand prix takes place on November 7th.
