Formula One: Teammate rivalry inevitable at Silverstone
Mark Webber of Red Bull thinks that the rivalry with teammates is inevitable especially if both the drivers are equally good. It is nothing new to the Formula One history, whenever both the teammates are doing equally good in the same team it is very likely that a severe form of rivalry and competition will take shape.
In race world every time two equally competent drivers are placed in the same team it gives way to envy. The Red Bull driver Mark Webber said that the rivalry that resulted in his crash with teammate Sebastian Vettel, at the Turkish Grand Prix, is now very likely to repeat between the two men of McLaren.
The year began pretty well for Red Bull Racing as the third race of the season was won by Vettel and later the fifth and sixth race of the season were again won by the Red Bull driver, Webber. This brought the team to the peak of the Constructors’ Standing as well as brought Webber to the top of the Drivers’ Charts. The dramatic point of the season came at the Turkish Grand Prix when the two went faster than the rest of the squad and instead of competing with other teams they had to compete with each other. There came the disastrous point as they both bumped into each other resulting in Vettel’s retirement from the race and Webber lost his first position to end at third place in the race.
This dramatic Red Bull crash gave way to the McLarens who claimed the first two places in the race and since then they have been able to maintain their hold on the upper slots of the charts. In the following race at the Montreal Circuit the McLarens were once again lucky to repeat the same finish that was granted to them in the previous race due to the Red Bull rivalry.
Well, as Webber sees the situation, he says that now it is time that the two McLarens will have a clash. At present they are both in great form. The cars have been upgraded for Silverstone and they are already leading the charts.
So far the McLarens have been able to grab a total of four victories this season, two by each of the drivers. The upcoming race is important for both the men as it is a home race for both of them. Also because in this race Lewis Hamilton would try to do all he can to win as he has to secure his position at the top. His teammate, Jenson Button stands at second place, only six points behind.
