Formula One: The Drivers’ Championship after Japanese GP (Part 2)
The biggest treat of Japanese Grand Prix was for Michael Schumacher’s fans as the seven-times world champion gave his best performance of the season by winding up the race at sixth place after having started from 10th on the grid.
Schumacher currently stands at 9th place in the Drivers’ Championship with 54 points, two places behind his team-mate, Nico Rosberg, who has 122 points.
The Suzuka track also marked the best race of the season for BMW Sauber team. Its driver, Kamui Kobayashi, ended at 7th place in his home town although his earlier qualification for the 14th place was a disappointment for his home fans.
As the day ended, the team and the fans were happy with Kobayashi's performance as this finish has kept him from falling lower than his current twelfth position in the charts. Moreover, his new team-mate, Nick Heidfeld, who recently took the place of Pedro
De Rosa in the team, also complemented him brilliantly by ending one place behind him at 8th, getting his first four points of the season.
Although, there were some better expectations from the Williams’ driver, Rubens Barrichello but he was only able to pull up the 9th slot, thus he still stands at the 11th place in Drivers’ Standings.
The two Toro Rosso men, Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari ended together for the tenth and eleventh places, after having started at 18th and 16th places respectively on the grid. The day was a lucky one for Buemi. He now has a total
of 8 points and stands at 16th place in the charts.
On the other hand, his team-mate, Alguersuari came back from Japan pointless and timidly stands at 19th position so far, earning only 3 points all through the season. The 12th position was occupied by Heikki Kovalainen, who had started
the race from 20th place.
With this finish, the team has had their best result of the year so far. Overall, this marked a brilliant day for Lotus. Jarno Trulli ended at 13th place making Lotus stand out amongst all the rookie teams. However, the two drivers still stand pointless
at the 20th and 21st slots in the Drivers’ Championship.
Timo Glock of Virgin started the race from 22nd place and ended at 14th, making this his best race of the season despite being stuck behind Sakon Yamamoto for most part of the race. He currently stands at 24th place in the
points’ tally.
Meanwhile, Bruno Senna parked his HRT at the fifteenth spot, which is his best since the start of the year. The other HRT driver, Yamamoto ended a place behind his team-mate, even though he kept leading him all through the race. Currently, both the team
drivers stand at the bottom of the Divers’ Championship.
Moreover, seven of the drivers retired from the race of which six packed up right at the first lap due to a poor encounter with each other. Nico Hulkenberg, Felipe Massa, Vitaly Petrov, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Lucas di Grassi crashed into each other in the
first minute while Adrian Sutil and Robert Kubica retired at 44th and 2nd laps respectively.
Sutil, the Force India driver, ended at 44th lap due to an oil leakage problem while Robert Kubica of Renault ended at 2nd after facing some mechanical problems.
