Formula One: The drivers’ point of view about the Brazilian Grand Prix (Part 5)
With just two races remaining in the 2010 season, the title run has become even more interesting as both Red Bull drivers retired at the Korean Grand Prix; Fernando Alonso is now leading the drivers’ standings by 11 points over Mark Webber. However, we can
consider Jenson Button out of the title chase as he is now 42 points adrift, while Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel are just 21 and 25 points behind respectively.
Jenson Button
McLaren driver Jenson Button loves racing at the Brazilian grand prix and claims that it is a special race because the British driver won his world championship at Interlagos last year with Brawn GP. Jenson has been looking forward to the Brazilian grand
prix ever since and expects to get some vital points and probably decrease the deficit between him and the championship leader Fernando Alonso.
“Interlagos is an incredible racetrack - a place where you can race hard, where all your mistakes are punished and where you’re really rewarded for attacking. I think our package will be well suited to this circuit,” he said.
Jenson Button gave one of his most attacking, best drives of his entire career at the Brazilian Grand Prix last year when he qualified in 14th place, while his teammate Rubens Barrichello was on pole position. Jenson had an awesome pace at the
Brazilian grand prix last year and that is something Jenson hopes to replicate this season as he hopes to gain some good results to increase his chances of winning the title.
The points situation this year has been quite unpredictable and even though Jenson Button is facing an uphill struggle at the moment, he vows to put everything he has on the table and fight until the very end in order to defend his title.
Lewis Hamilton
The 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton said that he always has a unique experience at the Brazilian grand prix every year. The track has so much to offer that a driver can never experience it at its full in a single grand prix. Lewis Hamilton has a history
at the Brazilian grand prix as he has won his title at the Brazilian grand prix in 2008 and lost his championship lead to lose the title to Kimi Raikkonen in 2007 in his debut career. Lewis started in 17th place last year and used his KERS to boost
his way up to the 3rd place.
Team McLaren hopes that they will have the fastest car at Interlagos but they will have to come up with a decent package that would provide both speed and grip. The team has a strong engine that provides a good straight-line speed so McLaren will be quick
at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
“I know the world championship is figuring in everybody’s thoughts at the moment, but I’m not thinking about it too much: I need to get a good result in Brazil to take the fight to Abu Dhabi, so that’s my priority. Whatever happens, it’s going to be a very
tight battle,” said Lewis.
Martin Whitmarsh
McLaren’s team Principal, Martin Whitmarsh believes that the 2010 Formula 1 season is reaching a critical and McLaren is playing a huge role in it. With just 2 races left, McLaren is just 27 points behind Red Bull in the constructors’ standings and Lewis
Hamilton is just 21 points adrift of the championship leader Fernando Alonso.
“If Formula One has taught us competitors one thing over the past couple of years, it’s to never give up hope until the odds are no longer possible, and that the most unexpected outcome can become a very real and viable possibility sooner than you can readily
imagine,” said the team principal.
Therefore, the team is determined and plans to take this determination to the final two races in Brazil and Abu Dhabi. The team is optimistic and they believe that they can win both championships if they perform at their best and not lose hope.
