Formula One: Virgin racing’s survival is in danger- Ecclestone, bottom two teams may leave the calendar
Virgin Racing is optimistic and has all positive attitudes as it moves ahead for the rest of the season. The team firmly believes that it can deliver both commercially as well as on-track for the rest of the season to prove its potential to all the sceptics who consider it to be an unsuccessful team in the Formula One crew.
The struggling team had been encountering troubles right from the start of the season, initially due to its poor reliability and later owing to the fuel tank issue. However, the worst trouble is faced now as the F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone suggested in a recent interview that the bottom two teams may leave the calendar to make the grid more suitable for the striving teams.
However, rather than taking it as a disheartening situation, Virgin Racing's CEO Graeme Lowdon told AUTOSPORT’s official website that he is completely upbeat, as he thinks that the team is ready to prove its strength to everyone who thinks it to be a below the mark team.
"I think Bernie Ecclestone is obviously entitled to make his comments about various teams," Lowdon expressed. "But we get on with our job; we know what we need to do.”
He further went on to say that, the team should have informed Bernie of where they stand in terms of sponsors and investors as they are pretty secure and do not have issues with it at all.
Moreover, he said that Virgin Racing has entered the sport to add to the show and would try to entertain the race lovers with best racing spectacles on the track. The team brought some innovative changes to its car at Silverstone, which really worked well for them and now he believes that some further changes could make their position even better.
Lowdon explained that some terrific commercial progress has also been done by Virgin Racing therefore; he has no financial doubts for the rest of the season or for the next one.
All the new teams start from ground zero and it takes them time to stand among the established teams, as so is the case with Virgin, only that it has met with some problems more severely than they expected.
Lowdon during the briefing said that Virgin Racing's future is not dependent on where it finishes this season, rather there are a lot many things that together make a business plan, still he added that they are all looking forward to finish as high as possible in the championship.
He also clarified that from the technical point of view that the team has set some goals, which they are successfully meeting one after the other. It is just a matter of little more time, when they would be among the competitive teams of the season. In addition, he added that they had not even ignored the commercial point of view, where they had already reached to their set goals of the year.
While talking about the on track form of the team, Lowdon accepted the fact that Virgin Racing was not able to give a start that was hoped; nevertheless, he is still hopeful that the team would be back on track with a new spirit and form following the summer break.
He said that the team might have lost heart by now, as the season went pretty messy for a long time but a massive turnaround had certainly taken place that makes them all hopeful for the future.
If the team is compared to Lotus, which stands closet to them in the Constructors’ Championship, then one can see that they Virgin had shown a vital improvement from the way they were during before. However, still there is a long way to go for the team and they would need to give in all their best to stay a part of the Formula One caravan.
