Formula One: Vitaly Petrov hopes to stay with Renault for 2011
The Renault driver, Vitaly Petrov is hopeful to extend his current agreement with the team. The driver’s manager Oksana Kosachenko told the press earlier today that a new contract is ready to be signed with the team very soon.
The driver has seen several ills and odds with his team during his first season in Formula One. But, he is finally happy as he reckons that ‘all is well that ends well’. The last race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix had been an amazing one for the
driver as well as his team and an unforgettable one for the Ferrari and its driver, Fernando Alonso.
Alonso, entered the race being at the top of the charts’ tally, and was already 11 points ahead of his toughest competitor, Mark Webber of Red Bull. Although his chances of victory were pretty clear, but a poor pitstop strategy, and then the superb driving
of Petrov deprived the driver from his third World Championship. Alonso got stuck behind the Russian driver who did not let him over take all through the evening. Ultimately, the two times world Champion had to settle at 7th place, while the Renault
driver made a brilliant finish for 6th position. The lucky evening for the young lad helped him reserve his seat with the team for another season.
While taking to the media earlier today, Petrov's manager said that although the agreement is yet not signed but she is pretty hopeful that all will settle for good. She further added that the team is glad to retain the driver and Petrov is also looking
forward for another good season ahead with the team.
While explaining the current situation Kosachenko said, "Most likely, we'll sign a contract in the second week of December. Vitaly is on vacation now and he'll spend the next two to three weeks outside Russia."
While explaining the details of the contract, Kosachenko proclaimed that she is hoping to extend the contract for two-year with Renault. However, she continued telling that in any case if things do not go with Renault the way she hopes, she has a plan B
as well to ensure Petrov's stay in Formula One for a longer period.
Moreover, Renault’s team boss Eric Boullier told the press, "His performance in Abu Dhabi will be a positive in our consideration. But we still have to sit down and I want to make sure my mind is fresh to think over the situation. There are still some
frustrations but I have to consider the global package, and I have to say that Abu Dhabi was positive for him."
