Formula One: When superheroes make blunders...
Finally the drivers have had enough from critics. Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel after being harshly hammered by critics have become vocal, defending the position of all drivers.
Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso, proclaimed that the way Formula One drivers are being criticized for their mistakes this season is very unfair. He believes that there are obvious reasons for why such groomed drivers are making these blunders every now
and then on the tracks.
Formula one has not seen such an intense season in decades. The top five drivers stand with a difference of just twenty-four from each other and every round is bringing more surprises and uncertainty. With such a situation many drivers believe that keeping
one’s self utterly cool and calm is simply not possible.
Year after year the series sees just two or rarely three strong players fighting for the title and at times the champion is even obvious before the last few races take place as it was experienced last year.
However, unlike usual seasons, the situation is becoming more nail biting and jaw dropping with every passing race this year.
Another very important factor why so many drivers are being pointed out this year is that the struggle for the title is between five drivers instead of the usual two. That means five people are under the spot light, and their every single move is being observed
closely.
The Spaniard, Alonso has faced severe criticism earlier this year for having a jump-start at the Chinese Grand Prix, and later faced a crash in a Monaco practice session. He is not the only one, who had been pinpointed for driving mistakes. Many other high-profile
drivers have also been beaten badly by the words of critics.
Sebastian Vettel was also accused for showing poor driving at the Belgian Grand Prix as he crashed into Jenson Button last month. Also, one of the worst mistakes of the season was demonstrated by Lewis Hamilton of McLaren as he ended his race at the first
minute. Hamilton took the first chicane and drove his car into the gravel while making a poor overtaking attempt, and ended his race with a damaged steering.
The Ferrari driver concluded saying, "In terms of driving style, in terms of starts, aggressiveness, the team itself prefers to race much calmer. You don't need to push in terms of performance, so when you have tough competition, everything is on the limit
and you risk much more - the team, the drivers, the engineers, everyone”.
Vettel, while backing Alonso said that, “It is a very tight call from the inside of the car. In the end I think it depends on who you are, and you’re driving style. Some drivers try, others don't. Surely you need to see the risk. Is it possible? Is it not?
If it is not possible then you don't try, but sometimes you think it is possible, you try and it doesn't work”.
A large number of such incidents have been seen all through the season when some very polished drivers made poor mistakes. But then this is the human factor and if that is excluded and everyone drove flawlessly the race might not have equal appeal and following.
At the end of the day it is not only the cars or the tracks that people come to cherish rather it is also the drivers, their skills and talents and their endurance, which makes Formula One what it is today.
For race lovers the men behind the wheel are their super heroes and seeing them make a mistake is unacceptable.
