Formula One news - Adrian Newey Drives His New RB5 at Goodwood
Adrian Newey is more than happy! Red Bull Racing has made his weekend better than he thought by presenting him an RB5, which he will be driving at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The gift was delivered to him today at the grand event of Goodwood as a token of appreciation from the team for all the hard work since he has joined the team.
The skilful aerodynamicist joined the Red Bull Racing at the start of 2006 and since then he has been a great asset for the team. He holds the position of the chief technical officer for the Formula One team of Red Bull.
While presenting the car, the Red Bull team Principal and former racer, Christian Horner said that he was delighted to give this RB5 to Adrian on behalf of the Red Bull team for all the hard work he has done since he has been a part of the team. He told that the car was really momentous for the team, as it holds the memories of being the first model of the chassis that helped the team win six races last year. He jokingly added that Adrian had already made a mess of his lawn with the large collection of cars that he has, but RB5 is going to tear grass off the roots of his lawn. Horner also said that he hopes that Adrian would be happy with the gift and will take good care of it.
The car had been handed over to Adrian Newey along with all the necessary accessories, including the specially made crash helmet for the car and overalls to ensure his safety and protection. Also he had been given a set of spares of the accessories.
Adrian Newey was overwhelmed at the great gesture of the team. A while after he received the car he talked to the official website of Formula One telling that he is over pleased with all the effort the team has put in for preparing the car especially for him. He very proudly showed the car and told that the paint and the lines on it were absolutely perfect and that he has already started loving it. He was also gratified with the work that has been carried to specially create the helmet and other things for him, which he thought were incredible. Above all what touched him the most was the trouble that the team principal and others have gone through in order to come over to Goodwood themselves to deliver him the gift. He finally said that the excitement of the weekend had increased many folds.
While having his first drive of the car he told that he felt really nervous as that was the first time that he was driving a car with a hand clutch, before that he had always driven the left-foot brake expect for the days when he was Karting. Still he thought that it was a fantastic drive and one thing that he kept telling himself all the way, 'hand clutch, hand clutch', while his feet automatically kept reacting. Overall he said that the drive was an excellent experience, one that he would remember for a long time.
Adrian was happy to tell that now he is planning to club together with some of the other auto lovers who are also lucky enough to have such special cars so that they can together hire a circuit. He was keen to get hold on a modern one with a longer run off so that he would be able to enjoy driving the car without the fear of having a spin over before the crowd.
