Formula One news - Mark Webber patches up with the team
Red Bull driver Mark Webber has finally patched up things with his team after various problems became public following the Silverstone GP; Mark Webber had openly said that the team were favouring Sebastian Vettel.
Just before qualifying at the British GP, Red Bull took a front wing from Webber’s car and moved it to Vettel’s car.
Mark Webber said he has had talks with the team and things have been clarified. He added that there is immense respect between him and Sebastian, and they are not a enemies as portrayed by the Media. He said that we are just 2 drivers pushing hard to win. That actually is a positive thing for the team.
Webber, after winning the race at Silverstone, let out his frustration over the team radio by saying not bad for a number 2 driver is it?
While expressing his anger after the race, Webber said that he would not have signed a contract extension had he known that he would be treated as the 2nd best driver in the team.
Webber was set to meet the team Principal Christian Horner at Milton Keynes where the team factory is located, the two were expected to have a detailed talk and clean up any misunderstandings.
Webber said that there are various things that one can say in the heat of the moment, but soon he realised that they were totally unnecessary and should not have been said.
The Australian added that a sport like Formula One is very competitive and is contested with immense intensity. He added that the comments from him on the radio after the race can be termed as typical Australian sarcasm, but still depends how one interprets it.
Team Principal Horner and Mark Webber had a long chat on Tuesday and clarified number of mix ups that had occurred after the British Grand Prix.
After Webber expressed his anger over the shift of front wing to Vettel’s car, Horner admitted that probably he should have talked to Webber before making the decision. However, he maintained that it was only a tactical decision
Horner said that the decision was prompted purely by the team performance; Vettel was the leading driver after the Australian and Valencia GP.
Webber is now the one in the lead as far as Red Bull is concerned, he leads Sebastian Vettel by 7 points with half the season still to go. Webber who was given the explanation by Horner said that he has nothing against Vettel or Horner and will help the team advance in the rest of the season.
The Australian driver said that he was upset about the switch of front wing, but only because he was not told in advance and now he knows the strategy behind it he does not have any problems with that.
He said that he understands that if a team has limited resources and a driver is doing well he may be favoured.
Webber added that now it is clear to me and the team, that if such a situation arises again the driver who is leading in points will be favoured. There is no question of personal liking and points are all that matter.
This is not the first time Webber has had a bonding session with the team management. Earlier in Turkey, when Vettel in an effort to overtake him collided with his car and ruined Webber’s chances of winning the race, Vettel ended up crashing out of the race while Webber finished 3rd.
After the race there was immense rivalry and rift felt between the 2 drivers, but after a session of talks and clarification between Webber, Vettel and Horner the issue was resolved.
Now with 9 races left in the season there sure are more stories to come out of the Red Bull camp, with both drivers going for the championship the term every man for himself may just fit the picture.
