Formula One news - McLaren vows equal treatment for both the Drivers
The McLaren-Mercedes team Principal Martin Whitmarsh, announced a little before the team left for the next race of the season at Hockenheim, that both the drivers stand at equal place for the team and none of them would compromise to favour the other.
The team drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton had always been treated equal and he vowed that the team management will treat them equally in future as well.
He added that he does not wish to see one of the drivers playing a supporting role for the success of the other rather he believes that both of them are at the competing positions and the team wishes to support them both equally.
To demonstrate the team’s positive role in the past he pointed out towards the exhaust-blown rear end situation that came up at Silverstone where none of the tow racers was preferred over the other.
At the British Grand Prix practice session on Friday, McLaren came with its Red Bull Racing inspired blown rear end for its MP4-25, however it experienced some major balance issues owing to which team decided to have it removed for the race day. Though Hamilton insisted to let it stay but still the team had it removed to ensure both the drivers are running the same technology in the car.
Whitmarsh quoted the situation as being a proof of giving absolutely equal treatment to both its men.
The British boss added that every team strives to bring performance to the car as much and as quickly as possible and now he thought that they were also ready to take the blown diffuser to the German Grand Prix as they wished to introduce it when it will be available and acceptable for both the drivers.
He further elaborated that he had always stressed on equality and had aimed to treat both the drivers just the same, providing equal opportunities to grow in their careers.
The defending World Champion, Button when moved to McLaren earlier this year from his prior team, Brawn-Mercedes, a lot of people suggested that he should not leave his team as McLaren was primarily termed as Hamilton’s team.
Since he had been with the team for longer time, was doing good and above all he was able to win the World Championship with the team in the year 2008, to set the record of being the youngest Champion ever at the age of twenty three.
However, unlike the predictions, the team extended equal support and assistance towards the new British driver, Button, who had also been able to prove himself to be just as good as Hamilton had been for the team.
Now as Whitmarsh sees the whole setting and environment of their team he says that he is happy to see the way the team grows together and had been able to make the right decisions at the right time.
He said that he was happy for the way the team reacted at Silverstone regarding the blown diffuser matter and above all he praised Hamilton who respected the decision merrily and as a result both the drivers were able to do well at the race.
He proclaimed proudly that Button’s performance on race day at Silverstone was simply brilliant, after he saved his second position in the drivers’ Standings by having emerged from fourteenth place on the grid and having the race finished at fourth position.
The 52-year-old concluded saying that he is proud of both the great drivers the team possesses and that the entire crew at McLaren works hard not just to keep the atmosphere in the team comfortable but also to help the two drivers reach as high in their career as they can.
