Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton vows to avoid errors in the future
The former world champion promises to take it up a notch and give his best performance in the coming races.
The British driver has been facing some problems since the past three races, as he had to retire in two out of these three. First, Lewis had to retire due to a gearbox problem at the Hungarian Grand Prix and then at Monza, the contact with Felipe Massa’s
rear wheel broke the steering on his car, causing him to hit the straight into the tyre wall.
"I've had two non-finishes and one win in the last three races - and, while that's not bad, it does mean that I lost points to some of the other drivers in the hunt for the title, and those results aren't enough to get me the title," he said.
The McLaren added that he would make sure he finishes the remaining five races and he will keep pushing and take each race as it comes separately. That is the most important thing for him and vows to perform his best at Singapore.
Lewis was one of those drivers who got a perfect car since the beginning of his career. The British driver joined McLaren to begin his impressive career in 2007 to replace Kimi Raikkonen. Hamilton got the opportunity to race alongside the two-time champion
Fernando Alonso in his team. The 25-year-old constantly scored podiums in his first 9 races and led the championship. He was able to pull off his first win in his debut season at the Canadian Grand Prix followed by another one at the US Grand Prix. It seemed
that Lewis would grab the grand prize in his first season and kept everyone to the edge of his or her seats until the very last race. The British driver had to face some problems due to conflicts between him and his teammate in the second half of the season,
following some disappointing performances. Lewis lost the championship to Kimi Raikkonen in the Ferrari by just 1 point after retiring at the grand finale at Brazil.
The Spaniard left the team the following year to return to Renault, and McLaren was relieved once more. This determined the 25-year-old to race even better and score his performance to date. Lewis came back with a bang and took a number of wins, followed
by a crash at the practice session at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The British driver struggled a little in the middle of the season but came back to the top of the standings at the Monaco Grand Prix. Hamilton finished the season on the top this time after finishing
just a single point ahead of Felipe Massa at the final round the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The 25-year-old had a disastrous third season after two dreamlike seasons. However, he managed to recover in the second half of the season and scored 49 points to end up in the 5th place of the drivers’ standings for the year 2009. This season
is looking good for the young McLaren driver and hopes to secure his second title this year. He is currently 5 points short of the leader Mark Webber in the Red Bull.
Martin Whitmarsh, team principal McLaren claims that he does not want Lewis to change his sense of racing, despite his follies at the Italian Grand Prix. Hamilton was glad to hear the encouraging words by Martin.
He said that it is always nice to know and hear this kind of support from your team as it drives the driver even more. “But, in other ways, it actually goes without saying as I couldn't really ask for more support from my team - I know they're always behind
me. You feel like you've let the team down when you have a bad result, so I'll be fighting harder than ever for the rest of the season,” the 2008 champion said.
Lewis claims that he has already moved on, and is not thinking about what happened at Monza at all.
“I got up on Monday morning, and I was already focused on the next race, improving the car, and closing in on the world championship. You can't dwell on the negatives - we are still in a good position, and we need to capitalise on that,” said the motivated
driver.
