Formula one news - Vettel’s demand increases by every passing race
The Red Bull team Principal, Christian Horner wants to settle things with Sebastian Vettel so as to have a long time contract with the driver. Sources close to the team have disclosed that Horner wishes to sit down with Vettel at Silverstone this weekend and talk about the future of the team and the driver.
The 23-year-old Vettel had already signed a contract to race with Red Bull Racing for the upcoming 2011 season, but the Milton Keynes based team want to negotiate with the driver to have him going with Red Bull till a longer period of time.
The Germany’s, Sport Bild, which is Europe's biggest sports magazine and is published every week, reported that the team, owned by Austrian Dietrich Mateschitz and managed by Briton Horner, is seeking to finalize a deal valid up till 2015.
However, as the Briton was asked how long he will want to have Vettel in the team he joked away saying that he will want him to continue with the team till 2028, saying that, "Then he'd be 41, like Michael Schumacher." He was excited to add further that Sebastian is young and holds a strong future. He also commented that Vettel is going to be around and will be winning for many more years.
At the moment Vettel has not given any verdict, saying that he is thinking over it as it is tough to take a decision for so many years ahead. Vettel takes care of all the contractual negotiations himself and whenever he needs any assistance or advice regarding such decisions it is only his father, Norbert whom he goes to.
Horner showed his concern while talking about the driver. He told that he is well aware of the fact that Mercedes would want to sign Sebastian in the following years. He also added that he fears that Ferrari or even McLaren will like to have a discussion with him to get him down to their team therefore he does not want to waste any time. He said that he wishes to precede all other teams in order to make the offer as well as to have the guy booked before anyone else will do so.
The reports were disseminated by various media channels that a new deal has been already offered to him up till 2015, with the option of going forward till 2018 with a ten percent increase for every additional year. That would enhance Vettel's retainer up to EUR 12 million every season.
All that Vettel had to say till the moment was that he already had a contract with Red Bull for the next season. He added that it is tough to say at present how things will shape in the coming years. He concluded that for him how much he is being paid matters less as the most important thing is the car he sits in, as that will define his career. He was determined that he wants to be driving the most competitive car so that he can feel comfortable and his performance will enhance accordingly.
Vettel at the moment is all focused to give his best at the Silverstone as he wishes to reach the top of the charts as soon as possible. With half of the season already gone, Vettel stands at third place with a total of one hundred and fifteen points; one place ahead of his teammate Mark Webber. Vettel has shown a great form right from the start of the season as he was able to win the third Grand Prix of the season at Malaysia and later he bagged victory at the Valencia Circuit, Spain, last month.
With such great form and standing in the charts, no doubt the Red Bull would never want the man go to another team and it is assumed that Vettel himself would not want to go to another team as the RB6, he is driving now is the best car these days at Formula One.
