Formula1: Niki Lauda gives expert views on season 2010
The season had been great for the Austrian Team, Red Bull as they triumphed to collect six victories out of the twelve races gone so far. Though all the race lovers of the country are delighted but the three times Austrian world champion, Niki Lauda feels jubilant for having heard his national anthem on the track so many times in a year.
Lauda says that the team is doing a great job, which he says not only out of patriotism rather he believes that they have proved to be the most competitive team of the season as the engineers, the drivers and the management all are doing a great job.
The acknowledged F1 expert talked to the official website of Formula1 expressing his views on the 2010 season so far, giving his opinion of various teams along with his predictions regarding different drivers of the season.
While talking about the current championship standings Lauda commented that it reflects the true balance of power in Formula1 so far as the driver with the most race wins of the season and the team with the best car leads in the respective standings.
Mark Webber of Red Bull is the only driver of 2010 season to have won four races, while his close rivals Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso have been able to grab two victories each.
Lauda explains that winning a race means that the driver acted wisely and promptly to every situation for his benefit. Though luck has a vital role to play yet even fortune favours the bold ones only.
He praised the Austrian team saying that Red Bull has simply the best car on the grid right from the start of the season though McLaren kept leading the charts for a long yet the last race in Hungary reflected the clear dominance of Red Bull on the track. He believed that it was only a matter of time before the team learned to overcome the human as well as technical errors.
Despite Webber’s supremacy on the charts Lauda takes Sebastian Vettel to be the best driver of the season. He explained this by saying that in Budapest, Vettel did a brilliant job in qualifying showing a great speed leaving behind all the rest of the cars including his teammates as well.
When he was asked about the rivalry of the two Red Bull drivers which made them suffer badly he said that there are two models of teams in Formula 1. One way is running the team politically as the Ferrari does, making one driver the focus for the team whereas the other way is to give both the drivers an equal opportunity, which the fans like the most as done in Red Bull, letting both their men compete with each other, which can cause rivalry in the team.
He exclaimed that this is what makes this sport a crowd puller, as the fans come to see the furious men in their battling cars and not a predetermined race.
The old driving hero was also asked if once again Ferrari was repeating the same incident with Fernando Alonso as it did in Michael Schumacher’s times following team order over Rubens Barrichello. In response to this the driver said that what the Italian team did in Hockenheim was very disappointing. He commented that either the rules must be changed for all or they must be observed by everybody.
At the end of his conversation he gave his expert opinion about McLaren saying that both its drivers, Hamilton and Button are capable of snatching the championship once again, despite the fact that they do not have a car as competitive as the RB6.
