Write the formula of the following ionic compound:

  1. {3 x Na(1+)} + {1 x N(3-)} = Na₃N. (Na3N. the subscript 3 is too small).

    (The thumbs down is totally undeserved. My answer is more correct than the other and yet, it doesn't have a thumbs down...???.

    I wonder who gave it to me...?...Strange isn't it!)


  2. Sodium becomes Na+ when it reacts to become part of an ionic compound since it is a group 1A metal.  All of group 1A become 1+.  So, in order to form a neutral compound, 3 sodium cations must combine with one nitride ion to form sodium azide... Na3N where 3 is a subscript.  Hope this helps.
