  1. If you are considering pumping water up from underground, you will need to look the NPSH curves for the centrigugal pumps you are considering. These will tell you how much suction lift a pump can provide before cavitation begins.

    In the other case if you are looking at a deep well pump, like for a residence, you will need to know the depth of the water table. Add that depth (in feet) to the pressure you want at the house (in feet) to determine the pump pressure. (2.31 Ft = 1 psi) Even though you may drill down 130 feet to get to good water, where the pump will be , that water will probably rise to the level of the water table in the pipe.  


  2. If you are looking for pump head data - try pump head charts. Available from the manufacturer, plus some generalized ones should be in your fluids book if you have that. If you are wanting pressure drop equations... Any fluids book will do for major and minor head calculations. One of the best is by Fox & McDonald.
