Humans have replaced alot of the physical evolution with cultural evolution (tools, medicine, etc.) but there is always random mutations going on so we have not completely stopped physcially evolving.

'advanced' technology is a matter of degree. when humans first leant to control fire, it was technology far advanced than that possessed by other animals. each technological advance led to more, exponentially. now, technological innovation can never cease. I do not think that humans were conscious, until after the first half of the last century, that runaway application of technology threatened the survival of the species. Now, technological advancement may replace the need for morphological and physiological evolution - you can air condition your room in the sahara desert, and need not develop a dark skin to survive. you can fly faster than any bird, without having to sprout wings on your shoulders. so, i think that evolution in the future, that is to say, NOW, will be more driven by societal and aesthetic preferences than by environmental stress.

Evolution is the process of change.  Change is the only constant in the universe.  When the original ancestors of all of us became a new species, they had no language, no speaking ability, and were very primitive.  However, the growth of their brain is directly related to the demand of their need to know.  Our species evolved a looooooong time ago. It's awe inspiring when I read available data regarding the ongoing results of how increasing intelligence was translated into creativity, which was translated into discovery of how they could utilize the natural products to create tools that helped them survive.  So where our species is at this time results from creativity

Technology was key to survival.  We may have used much of the technology at the expense of other lifeforms but it helped those that had it.  The other hominids probably couldn't keep up with the ancestors of modern humans who were very aggressive with their new technology.  It is likely that other hominids had some technology but were overwhelmed by massive numbers of modern humans armed for war.  Only we in the modern world can afford to think about how right something is.  When the times were difficult the choice was to kill or to die.  They had to establish and maintain territories.

"Primitive technology" is better termed "first technology." Genius appeared just as often thousands of years ago as it does today. The difference is that we've reach todays level by building on what was done in the past. Issac Newton said he could see so far as he stood on the shoulders of giants.

The first technology used natural materials. They lead to the use of copper, then bronze and iron. There's a very clear connection.

I once suffered through a class with a teacher that thought we were "ruining" the Inuit. Snow machines, prefabs and such nasty thing. My grade dropped when I asked if she'd every spent a night in an igloo with only seal fat for heat and light. People are very happy to drop the old ways when life will be easier, health better and have more food. If early man knew advance technology, he'd have used it.
