Forpadydeplasterer all set for a smart comeback in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham
Faded in the shadows of two uneventful seasons is the ten-year-old bay gelding, Forpadydeplasterer. Just because the Irish bay gelding could not cultivate any interesting headlines after the 2009 success, he is conveniently marked out of the winning frame of the Saturday’s Paddy Power Gold Cup. However, the trainer, Thomas Cooper, has a bang on plan for his gelding this season and wants him to top the list of favourites after creating an impact in the challenge just round the corner at Cheltenham.
He added: "I think he's on a very attractive mark (150), that's why we're keen to go.
"There's a couple of very nice horses in there, but they are only approaching their second season over fences whereas our lad is a seasoned campaigner.
"The ground should be lovely, the trip is what he wants these days and they'll go a good clip, which should be perfect for him - you never really get it in the small fields in Ireland he's been running in.
"He might be getting on but he's very consistent and he was only seven lengths behind Sizing Europe on his first run of the season."
The ten-year-old still has an entry in Clonmel Oil Chase on Thursday, but the trainer is more than willing to rule that option out.
The only reason that the Goat Racing Syndicate owned is not among the main stream options for the Gold Cup is because he had remained low-profile with the rankings that he had been bringing in.
Out of the five seasonal outings of 2012, Moscow Society’s bay gelding has scored the best in the Grade 2 PWC Champion Chase on 6th October, 2012 at Gowran Park over two miles and four furlongs.
He scored second while riding with jockey, Bryan Cooper, while Sizing Europe won by the margin of 7 ½ lengths. For the highly hopeful trainer, missing the first position was not as important as nailing the honourable second position.
Thomas Cooper is not the only trainer who is focusing at the winner’s prize money of the race so the bay gelding will need to keep a check on the level of competition. The line-up has Al Ferof trained by, Paul Nicholls, and the title defender, Grands Crus.
