Forrest Griffin: I will nail Tito Ortiz otherwise will leave the sport once and for all – UFC News
Forrest Griffin, the former UFC light heavyweight champion, is serious and in a recent interview commented that he will retire from his life if he loses the third and the final skirmish with Tito Ortiz, the former and longest reigning UFC light heavyweight
champion, adding that he is not in his prime anymore.
Tito and Forrest will co-headline Ultimate Fighting Championship’s upcoming pay-per-view ‘UFC 148: Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen’. The octagon for the showdown will be set up at MGM Grand Garden Arena situated in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
The show will be televised live on July 7, 2012 and will also witness Anderson Silva defend his title against arch rival Chael Sonnen. Forrest and Tito both are considered as respectable brawlers in UFC who have put forth the mixed martial art fanatics some
amazing and breathtaking bouts.
This will be the third time that both men will collide in the brutal octagon. In their first two clashes both have lost and won one bout each therefore the current collision can also be denoted as the final decisive clash between two of the best light heavyweights
in UFC.
Griffin, 32, has been in a total 25 mixed martial art bouts and boasts 18 wins. The Georgia proud has nailed three of his opponents by knockout, seven by submission and eight by decision.
Forrest recently collided with Mauricio Rua and lost the bout via knockout before that he was on a two-bout win streak and nailed Rich Franklin via unanimous decision and Tito by collecting a split decision.
During the media interaction, Griffin got a bit emotional and commented that he will leave the sport if he loses this bout. It must be noted that Ortiz has already been inducted in UFC Hall of Fame and this will be the veteran’s last career bout.
Forrest stated, “I was fighting for $300-400 when Tito was champion of the world. He's not what he used to be, but he’s still putting on good fights with the best in the world. The Machidas, the Rashads. The guys that he’s fighting are the top ten, cream
of the crop. A lot of people ask me. They say ‘Forrest, it’s Tito’s retirement fight. If you lose to Tito, are you going to retire?’ If I lose to Tito, I’m going to retire from life...seriously.”
Griffin has really put something extremely dear on the line therefore it can be said that he might nail the legendary Tito who proudly owns the record of being the longest reigning UFC light heavyweight in the history of the promotion.
Ortiz, 37, has been in a total 27 mixed martial art bouts and emerged victorious in 16. At the moment, he is on a two-bout lose streak and will therefore strive hard to exit the sport in a winning manner.
