Forrest Griffin compares Tito with Jon Jones and Chuck Liddell – UFC News
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin has finally come forward to comment on his UFC 148 opponent Tito Ortiz. Surprisingly, instead of putting him down, Griffin has appreciated Ortiz’s career, comparing him to some of UFC’s legendary fighters.
In his recent interview, Griffin came up saying, “Tito was Jon Jones before there was a Jon Jones. He was Chuck Liddell before there was a Chuck Liddell.”
He added, ““I really don’t know how I want to be remembered when my fighting days are over. It’s an honor if people do remember me at all. For now I will keep fighting as long as my body holds up and I can keep doing it. No one wants to stop fighting and
have to get a real job, especially me!"
He added that fighters usually want to fight forever and when they retire they usually end up dying due to depression. Furthermore, he said that when he started fighting, he just wanted to earn money but now he is the UFC champion, something he never thought
of. According to him, he is happy and he never though this would happen.
Tito Ortiz will face Forrest Griffin on July 7 at UFC 148. The event is being headlined by the highly anticipated rematch between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen.
It should be noted here that not only Griffin, even President of UFC Dana White believes Ortiz has led a legendary career. Similarly, Ortiz is happy with whatever he has accomplished in the sport. Last week, Ortiz gave an interview in which he claimed that
he could have beaten the so-called invincible Jon Jones in his prime.
According to Ortiz, his knee surgeries have reduced his potential as a fighter. He believes that if he had been in the same physical condition as he was in his prime, he would have beaten Jon Jones easily. Furthermore, Ortiz gave a blueprint on how to beat
Jon Jones, more like almost every other senior UFC fighter.
According to Ortiz, the only way to beat Jones is to neutralize his reach advantage by getting close to him so that he is unable to use his long arms and legs.
