Forrest Griffin fires back at Dana White for retirement call – UFC News
Forrest Griffin is definitely one of the best UFC fighters out there today. However, he has not been good enough in his recent performances, due to which President of UFC Dana White asked him to retire. Unfortunately, Griffin believes White’s call was vague,
as it was nothing based on reality. According to Griffin, he is among the top best fighters but not the best, and he does not hesitate admitting it.
“I took it as my own personal ‘Do you want to be a f---- fighter?' speech,” said Griffin in an interview with MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani. According to Griffin, White’s words were more inspirational than demotivating.
“That's the problem with being a realist. People don't want that s---. They want you to say ‘I'm the best ever.' My wife summed it up best for me. She said, ‘You ever hear one of those movie stars on the late night say ‘It's a pretty good movie. It's not
the best movie out there right now, but it's a pretty good movie.' You know? Nobody goes, ‘I'm a top 10 fighter. Well, maybe Top 15. I can beat a lot of guys.' ... Nobody ever says that. That's the thing with having a grasp on reality. I know I'm not the best,”
he added.
Griffin further stated that he might not get another title shot but he wants to stay in the business. Griffin defeated Quinton Jackson at UFC 86 for the title. Since then, he has been with 3 wins and 3 losses in his portfolio.
He even spoke of his upcoming fight against Chael Sonnen, which is not announced yet officially by the UFC. Griffin believes that Chael Sonnen ‘The American Gangster’ wanted to fight him and so he accepted. He revealed Dana White came to him asking for the
match and that he simply asked ‘when and where’.
However, the Las Vegas fighter did admit the fact that the fight not be as entertaining as his other fights, since both fighters have different styles.
It should be noted here that Griffin vs. Sonnen would be a rematch, as both fighters met back in 2003, when Griffin defeated Sonnen.
