Fort Carson: Where should I live?

My husband is going to be stationed at Fort Carson, CO. I am applying to schools in the Springs and Denver. If I were to go to school in Denver, what towns are convenient to both cities? I am willing to do more driving than my husband. I've looked at maps, but it's hard to estimate traffic times and getting through the gate, etc. If anyone has any experience with this situation, please let me know. I don't want either of us to have to drive forever to get where we have to go. Is this a feasible situation or should I be looking at schools and work solely in the Springs?

My son is stationed there right now and he goes to Denver on occasion. He tells me that the traffic can be miserable at times. For time sake, safety and expense, I would consider the Springs.
