Fort Carson here we come?

Right now my husband and I are here in Korea. His next duty station is Fort Carson,Colorado. I just want to know how it is over there? And since we're here in Korea, would we get first dibs on housing since we're overseas?

I just moved away from Fort Carson. Since you should have a hard copy of the orders call housing (if you want to live on base) and they will email you information you can fill out and get put on the waiting list. They usually have some housing always available (depending on # of dependents). The base isn't too bad. If you can I would suggest doing all your commissary shopping at the Air Force base...much better selection. Google Fort Carson, Colorado and you should get the link to housing, if they have updated it, you can look at the housing selections and some show the floor plans. I just lived there during the Winter. I hope you are used to driving in snow/ice. There are a lot of gates to get onto Ft. Carson. There is a community college just outside the base and there is a University 15 minutes from the base. If you have kids all the schools are on post. Since you are coming from overseas you may want to talk to housing about a loaner furniture program (I don't know if they have one there) since your household goods will take a little longer to get there. If you need to stay in a hotel and there is nothing available at the Army Lodge (which is also where the Housing Center is) we stayed at the "extended stay" not too far from Fort Carson for pretty cheap- you will get reimbursed for it all when you check into the command and give them receipts.
