  2. alot of mountains brah.... black bears... check out the city of tacoma.. and check out Gig Harbor brah.... check them places out... that about all i can say yo.... besides that its kinda boring.... base is cool **** though....

  3. Well, it's only about a 30 minute drive to Tacoma, if you speed, and not very much traffic.

    Lol

Yes it does rain a lot, but its a great place to be stationed.

you can actually smell the rain before it hits.

    You'll love it, :D

  4. Fort Lewis is located just a few miles south of Tacoma, WA. It's an area with a relatively moderate climate. Much taining is done over in the eastern half of Washington State at the Yakima Firing Range. The closest civilian area near the base is called Tillicum, avoid it at all costs, it's seedy. For in-city recreation, head North to Tacoma, a fantastic town or south to Olympia, a great city. Either way is a short drive from the base on I-5. If you like the outdoors-hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, the mountains, etc, than you'll love Fort Lewis. While stationed there, a must is a trip south to see Mt. St. Helens. For a major city experience, Seattle's about an hour away, Portland's about 3 hours away.

The cost of living is slightly higher in the area than the areas surrounding Ft. Stewart and Ft. Bragg as Western Washington is somewhat more affluent than North Carolina and Georgia. Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia aren't quite as beautiful as Savannah, GA, but the natural beauty of the region is something else. You will enjoy Ft. Lewis, there's a good reason why it's the most requested posting in the Army.
