Fort Loudon and Awesome Belle to take time off after the Breeders’ Cup
The juvenile colt and filly, Fort Loudon and Awesome Belle were doing pretty well at Calder racecourse prior going to the Breeders’ Cup trip that they earned.
Fort Loudon on one hand was unbeaten after breaking his maiden in his fourth attempt and was coming off a win in the $300,000 In Reality Stakes, divisions of the Florida Stallion Stakes, and on the other hand Awesome Belle also at Calder was coming off a first place finish in the $300,000 Florida Stallion My Dear Girl.
Both juvenile runners are owned by Jacks or Better Farm and trained by Stanley Gold. The 2-year-old son of Awesome of Course, out of mare Lotts A Talc by Talc, Fort Loudon prior to the In Reality Stakes won the Affirmed Stakes and the Dr. Fager Stakes.
The Affirmed Stakes were run over at 7 furlongs and the Dr. Fager Stakes at 6 furlongs. Going in to the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, Fort Loudon settled in fourth place going into the far turn after breaking from post number 12 under jockey Luis Jurado.
Fort Loudon couldn’t sustain his place in the pack as a result he wilted to finish seventh to wire to wire runner Hansen, who didn’t let the favoured Union Rags to touch him through the stretch.
Though it wasn’t a completely shattering performance but he did enough to keep Union Rags at bay to finish second.
Awesome Belle in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies couldn’t make a clean break from post number 12 and that was it for the daughter of Awesome of Course finishing 12th to the unbeaten My Miss Aurelia, who after the Breeders’  Cup performance is surely to win the Eclipse championship.
Gold said “He (Fort Loudon) did have a wide trip and only got beat nine lengths for it all, but I can’t really make any excuses for him or the filly,” “They both qualified to make the trip (with Stallion Stakes wins), which I’m proud of. They’re both on the farm in Ocala for three weeks for a little rest and then we’ll bring them back down to get ready for races at Gulfstream Park.”
