Question:

Fort Wilderness cabins?

Wanted to spend a couple of nights there with husband and 2 kids. Not doing the parks - just wanted to get away for a few nights and cook out, ride bikes (family bonding things - lol). Just looked into it and saw it was $300 for one night. Yikes! Anyone been there? And is it worth the money? We live in S. Florida so not flying from anywhere. Thank you!!

  1. It's ok, but if you aren't there for Disney, it's not worth the money.

  2. FW is probably the best campground in America, and is a great option for doing just what you want to do...tho I bet you a nickel you'll go to the Magic Kingdom at least, at least for one day.

An idea to get the FW benefits without the price of cabins:  rent an RV and get a campsite at FW instead! You'll save at least $200/day on the cabin rental as compared to a campsite rental, which you can apply to the RV and still come out ahead...

Another thing to keep in mind is that Disney resort prices vary tremendously over the course of the year--they change 4 times in November alone--so that if your dates are flexible you might be able to find a lower rate than the one you found.  See this page for 2008 Disney World resort price seasons: http://yourfirstvisit.net/planning-your-...

Also check out http://mousesavers.com  It's a source of special promotionall codes--all legit--that can sometimes save a bundle on resorts.

Hope this helps and have a great trip!  Dave

  3. I've stayed at the Cabins and they are really nice.  However, half of what you are paying for are the Disney perks.  So if you aren't actually there to do the Disney thing, it really isn't worth the price you are paying.  You can probably rent just as nice a cabin at some of the state parks or Everglades National or a KOA.  It will be cheaper and you'll get the same stuff you are looking for without paying for the perks you aren't going to utilize.
