Fortify, the one to support in Grey Goose Breeders´ Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita
Finally, the time has come for the biggest entertainment of the season. A star-studded line-up of nine runners has entered the Grade 1, Grey Goose Breeders´ Cup Juvenile, being hosted by Santa Anita in USA on Saturday, November 3rd. On fast one
mile and 110 yards, the juveniles will be in pursuit of a heavy cash prize worth £696,774.
Barring Fortify, all the contestants have been using Lasix. And with new rules which have put limitation on use of the medicine, it is almost impossible to say how they will perform. In this situation, the best move is to stick with Fortify, who is more
than capable of doing special things even without Lasix.
Including the medication angle, the 2-year-old has plenty going for him. He ran pretty well in defeat on his both graded starts, finishing respectively second and third to Shanghai Bobby.
Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, the bay colt made his debut on dirt in August, when finding no trouble in registering an easy 5½-length win at Saratoga. The Darley-bred continued the marvellous work the following month, but Shanghai Bobby proved too strong.
As a result, Fortify could only secure the runner-up spot in the Grade 2 meeting at Saratoga.
On his first trip at the highest level of sport, the son of Distorted Humor failed to spark, but it was not a disgraceful loss. In the hands of new jockey R. A. Dominguez, the Godolphin Racing LLC-owned ran well to notch up the third position in the Foxwoods
Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park last month.
Despite a couple of unlucky defeats, there are surely plenty to come from his side. His experience is also likely to prove crucial against a line-up, which includes a few dirt debutants.
The biggest danger is Shanghai Bobby, who is aiming to keep his unbeaten record intact. Todd Pletcher’s charge has defeated Fortify twice, but with no Lasix, the situation is different altogether.
Out of others, no one fascinates us. The real battle is between Shanghai Bobby and Fortify. The former is highly likely to struggle without the dose of medicine, thus the vote goes to Fortify. Good luck to him.
