Forward Brad Marchand re-signs with Boston Bruins in National Hockey League for four years
Canadian professional ice hockey player Brad Marchand, who plays for Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL), has re-signed with the same team for another 4 years.
The deal announced on Friday by Boston Bruins, according to whom, the deal was signed for $18 million for four years, an average of $4.5 million per year.
Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia born player was first drafted by Boston Bruins in 2008 NHL Draft, selected in third round of the draft at 71st. He was sent to play for Bruins American Hockey League (AHL) affiliates Providence Bruins where he played
one and a half season before he got a call from Boston Bruins in the NHL as he made debut in 2009-2010 season but did not score any goal.
Second season was a lot better for him as he played 77 regular season games and scored 21 goals, 20 assists, and total 41 points to help Boston qualify for playoffs. The 24-year-old scored 11 goals and 8 assists for 19 total points in 25 playoff games and
helped Boston Bruins win Stanley Cup.
Last season his performance was better in regular season as he scored 55 points in 76 games but his team could not go beyond first round of playoffs.
In a conference call, General Manager of Boston Bruins, Peter Chiarelli told that how the player got better and improved with time, coming towards the end of the year as he said,
"When he came up towards the end of that year, he struggled. He was a little behind the play. The stuff that he had excelled at in the American (Hockey) League, he had trouble. He was a little bit behind and he was getting pushed off of pucks. But he got
stronger, he got older, he got smarter, and then he had his year two years ago”.
Chiarelli also mentioned player’s performance in minor league as he added,
"He has a good shot and he has a nose for the net. Those two things, you expect him to produce to a certain level. He scored in Providence, and you could see how he scored”.
