  1. synchronized swimming

  2. These are terms that apply to kayaking. They can also be used as terminology in canoeing.

    Forward Sweep Stroke

    Horizontal and low shaft.

With a vertical blade face, place paddle fully in the water as far forward as possible with body leaning slightly forward.

Blade scribes a wide arc through the water away from the feet, as far out from the boat as possible, and around to the rear edge.

Stroke-side arm remains straight (or very slightly bent) through the stroke.

    Sculling Draw

The sculling draw creates a continuous sideways movement and develops paddler's sensitivity to blade 'feather' and 'slicing'. It is useful as a progression towards a more efficient Duffek.

    Side or Hanging Draw

The side or hanging draw stroke moves the boat sideways in a series of bursts, with the blade alternating between 'feathering' and 'slicing'. Note that this stroke exposes the shoulder joint far more than the sculling draw
