I'm not a Reds fan but I look at their team and i see some promise. With Volquez, Arroyo, Harang, Cueto, Bailey thats a good Rotation and even though Griffey is gone they still have a decent lineup. So do you think that if the Reds add to their lineup and bullpen they can challenge for the playoffs next year???

  1. they will be better they are a really young team that is really good at home.

Actually they also have a losing record against teams that are sub .500 and have a winning record against teams above .500

they are also 1 of 3 teams in NL to have a winning record this year in interleague play.

They do play in a tough division though but next year I think they wont have to worry about the brewers because I think they will lose Sheets and Sabathia to free agency

  2. I would love to see the Reds make it to postseason but with the pitchers you named they don't stand a chance. The first thing they need to do is fire the pitching coach, d**k Pole. Any team that has a pitching coach who had more losses than wins in his pro career and only 25 wins period should not be a pitching coach for any team!! That's like a .220 hitter being the hitting coach, does it make sense? No!!! Homer Bailey is overrated and Harang just needs to find a new teams hat to wear. Harang was our ace for a long time  and it hasn't helped us break .500 in the win-loss column. We have the worse catchers I have ever seen and not one of them can call a decent game let alone field their position adequately or hit! I'd rather have Varitek and his .240 average over any of those clowns.

We haven't had a winning record I don't think since 1999!  We are coming off a year where we finished 18 games under .500 and we will be lucky if we don't finish 25-30 games under .500 this year. No magic is going to make us appear in the playoffs in the coming years without substantial roster moves and getting rid of players the likes of Coffey, Weathers, Majewski, Fogg, Patterson, Encarnacion, Bako, Ross and Valentin.

I will always be a Reds fan but I am not too much of a homer not to realize that the Reds are one of the top five worst teams in the league. I get tired of the "potential" label that gets thrown on half of our players during spring training and that potential gets us nowhere in the regular season. We rank in the top five worst NL teams in errors, stolen base attempts, team batting average and strikeouts. As long as the Reds are topping the charts in those categories you can hope for a win every 2.5 games or so. GO REDS!

  3. I am a life long reds fan for 33 years and still love them, but until they make some major changes in their lineup especially those lousy catchers they won't contend in the NL Central.  There is always big talk of what they are going to do and then more of the same.  They haven't been to the playoffs since 1995 and just missed them in 2000.  Otherwise they have a losing record every season.  I miss the days of the Big Red Machine!

  4. Reds need to get some consistency at the plate. They really need Hairston Jr to be healthy and bring Freel back to have some speed. Keppinger is a great 2nd batter. If they stick with Adam Dunn they will need Brandon Phillips to provide the protection he needs because Encarnacion is not as consistent as he can be. And they need to work a trade and get a hitting catcher. Paul Bako and David Ross are merely defensive stars, but they suck at the plate.

As for the rotation, it's great. But once they are tired, the bullpen screws everyone. Not even Cordero is a good reliever. He can give you headaches in the 9th.

    I don't think they'll make the playoffs in 09.

  5. Doubtful. Even with a good rotation, with 15-20 games against the Cubs, Cards, and Brewers each, its going to be tough to leapfrog, or even contend them. (Brewers might not be as tough if they CC and Sheets though). I think it'll take a few more years for the Reds to contend in the NL Central.

But hey, we said the same thing about the Rays last year, so who really knows?

  6. Sure

  7. Where are Rose, Bench, Morgan, Perez, and Gullett when you need 'em ? Ah, but those days are gone forever, aren't they...?

  8. it doesnt help that they have to compete against the cardinals, cubs, and brewers.  The brewers will lose sheets and sabathia after this year, so they are back to mediocrity for the next 20 years.  Cards will get Carpenter and Wainright back to full strength, and the cubs will stay as good (or maybe pick someone up) as they are.  Personally i think the reds could have a chance, but i think volquez is overrated.

  9. yes but only if you give best answer to me
