Fossil help please??????????

I was in a creek near my house and found a big rock full of fossils. The things in the rock are white and they look like a bunch of round disk put together, also could look like a worm. Down farther into the creek I saw the same things sticking out the mud. I pulled one out and i cleaned it off in the creek and it has a star- like shape going down the middle.

Does any one know what this might be?

I don't have any pictures sorry :(

  1. Really hard to say without a picture, but if I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it might be a bed of fossilized snail shells.

Here's a picture of such a bed to compare http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1374/1278...

    UPDATE:

Oh yes.  The answers below me are definitely correct.  Crinoids would definitely fit your description better than snails.  I can't believe I didn't think of them.

  2. Definitely sounds like a crinoid.

  3. Yes, I vote that it is a Crinoid also. And you also found the flower of it. Easy to find in Ordovician and Silurian Deposits. Are you in Ohio, Kentucky,Indiana area? Very Lucky find to of picked up its flower.
