Hi I'm a stay at home mom, so I have the extra time and extra bedrooms, financially we get by. I'd really like to be a foster mom. I know it doesn't make a difference but I'd love to teach kids to bake and do arts and crafts and my husband is great with anything technical and building things we are very easy going and patient people . And we have great former bosses and friends references. What else do we need or could we do to be better prepared? We have a daughter and plan to stop with one although we eventually want to adopt a little boy so my hubby can have someone to teach to take cate of their car, play football and fish (although we plan to do the same with our daughter it's just a guy thing).. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it we're not there yet.

  1. i'm from sc and know of a few ppl that does foster. from what i heard, there's really not much to it. honestly i don't feel that things are checked out as good as they should be. i think they'll do a background check on you and your hubby, check out yals home & different things. you can problay search the web for sc foster and check out things as well as calling a dept of socail services and ask what type of things you will have to meet and go through b4 coming a foster parent.

  2. Good for you! I live in the Upstate and we're going through the adoption process. Call the Dept. of Social Services. You will have to attend an orientation, then attend some required classes. A social worker will then come do a Home Study (not a huge deal like most people think). If approved, you just wait for a referral of a child who needs a temporary home! Good Luck to you!

  3. Contact your county Child Protective Office. I am going through this right now to try and get my niece and nephew. You apply, they run a back ground check on everyone in the home, then do a home study..It can take 30-90 days. I think it is wonderful that you are interested. Please forge on, as with any government office, there is red tape, it's slow please don't get discouraged. Once approved your phone will be ringing off the hook. There are so many children who need homes!!

  4. Foster parenting a WHOLE State can cost quite a bit of money...

Oh wait. SC... forgot 99.97% of the population were sheep.

  5. Go to:

    http://www.state.sc.us/dss/

to look at the process and requirements.

I think it's a noble thing you're wanting to do.  We became licensed foster parents a couple years ago & have never regretted it.  Good for you for wanting to pour your life into someone else!
