First,my aunt wants to adopt a baby in foster care. Can she pick which age she wants to adopt? Or does the state pick for her.

Also,I was thinking of maybe working in a Foster care orphanage. But I was really wanting to take care of babies ages 6 to 18 months old. Do you think I might be able to request that or will my boss assign me to the age group most needed?

  1. Your aunt can choose the age.  She will receive bulletins - which are short blurbs about each child - and choose which children she would like her homestudy to be submitted for.

We don't have orphanges in America anymore (forgive me if you're not in America - I know nothing about foster care outside the US).  You can apply to be a foster parent, and you can choose to care for babies.  I believe that you can choose which children you will care for in foster care, as well.

ETA:  If you apply to be a foster parent, then the children would live with you in your home.

  2. Your aunt can choose an age but if it's not available, she'll have to wait.  For you working, they will put you where you are needed.

  3. Yes ur aunt can choose the age of the child she wishes to adopt.  But she cant just see one in foster care & then say 'i want that one!'.. it doesnt work like that... u undergo serious assessment first then the social workers match children to the type of family your auntie can offer. THEN, theres linking meetings, where she gets more info on a child & she meets the foster family etc.. THEN.. she may get the opportunity to adopt.

As for any job.. u work where you are told!  There will be few babies in a childrens unit... they usually go straight to foster carers.  The children in any sort of care home are usually much older.

  4. People wanting to Foster Children can pick an Age Range... Foster parents wanting babies only generally have additional requirements in order to qualify to take infants.

Most children WAITING to be adopted will remain in a regular Foster Home... while the state identifies an adoptive family... After the child's family is found that child will transition to their Pre-Adoptive family who will be seen as Foster Parents until the adoption is legally finalized.

If you are only interested in babies or children under the age of three stand in line... Everyone is willing to love and care for them.... New Foster families ONLY requesting infant placements often wait forever for the chance to foster--and many infants come with Siblings who also need to be loved and cared for....

It actually leaves a "bad taste" in the mouths of many caseworkers to see people only wanting babies and often the caseworkers will ONLY use those foster families as a last resort... Some Caseworkers will be irriated by the request and place one baby after another in the foster home Knowing that baby WILL be reunited with their family--just to make sure the foster family doesn't think it is a cake walk to get a baby, and hope to adopt.

I suggest that anyone who only wants to love babies become a Neonatal Nurse instead of a Foster Family... Babies are easy to love... and have no lack of people wanting to do so...

It's just to bad that babies don't remember the great love they get when older kids need it the most......especially the older kids who have lived with Foster Families that only wanted babies....
