Question:

Fostering 3 Cockatiels?

I am fostering 3 Cockatiels that were taken from a bird collecter in my town. She had over 100 different birds. One is a grey male, female is a white faced cinnamon pied, and I have their baby which is a pastel faced cinnamon. They had a baby girl but she died I was told.

We are trying to get them clam down and used to their new home as we will keep them. We are trying to hand tame them and once that is done we are giving the baby to my mother she recently lost hers and feel in love with him. Hes just a mean little sucker. I have a male grey of my own that flies all over my house. He goes for car rides, talks none stop, and whistles the mexican hat dance song.

So my question is has anyone had any experience with fostering cockatiels. Any advice and help would be great.

  1. I fostered 21 of them at one time before, they were being bred in horrible conditions.  Just take one day at a time with them and leave the cage door open and put your hand in without trying to touch them they will soon get used to your hand, then just get closer and closer.  They will eventually trust you and step up.  They are probably bonded together and it will take longer for them to trust you than if they were by themselves.  Don't separate them though they would be too upset, to be without the other.  Any other questions feel free to ask,

  2. Why did they take the babies? Just because she had a 100 birds doesn't give anyone the right to walk in and take them. What kind of person takes something away from someone and not even know how to take care of it? Sounds like a good way to get shot? I have well over 100 birds. I don't understand taking babies away from their parents and you don't even know what the heck to do with them. You have to be a patron of the SPCA spit!
