  1. The money isn't for you ! You aren't really paid to do it. The money is to support the child while it is in your home.

  2. It depends, we received between 500-1000 per child but ALL of that was to pay for expenses for the children.  Do not choose an agency by how much they give you, but the policies and how they treat the children, that is what is important!

  3. First off, all of the money I get is for the upkeep of my daughter and if it's spent right it is never enough.  This is not a money making deal for foster parents and if that thought even crosses your mind then you are doing it for the wrong reasons.

My wife and I are receiving approx $1000 a month for the upkeep of our little one.  Once you factor in the cost of formula, bottles, diapers, clothes, baby furniture, wipies, gas for parental visits and doctor visits as well as all of the other miscellaneous costs associated with the upkeep of a child we are usually out of pocket a bit each month.  There is not much chance to get ahead since all of the stuff we have for her is supposed to go with her when she either goes home or on to another home (adoptive or foster).  Do I know people who turn it into a source of personal income...sure, but they are wrong to do so on many levels.

I can't and wouldn't give you the names of the best agencies since you should want to do this for anything but the money and I'm not convinced that this is the case.  Do I mind spending some of my own money to give a child the best start possible, not in the slightest.

  4. The money you get for fostering doesn't even come close to covering the expense of having a child in your home.  If you have any desire whatsoever to ADD money to your coffers, foster care is a BAD choice.  You'll get screwed.  And so will the foster kids who need a GOOD home.

ETA: If you're not doing it for the money, then you can find out the details by calling the local DHS.  It's different for every child.

  5. If you're so rich why worry about money?

I always have alarms that go off when people start of by asking about money!

All money from foster care comes from state and federal money.  All agencies pay the same.  The state pays for counseling and medical care.

In my state, the most money a foster parent will get is about $64 a day, that is for a VERY high needs child over the age of 14 one step down from being in residential care.....it is rare the state to give a Level III to a child.

The least is $16 per day....trust me, it isn't worth the money...if that is your intention..don't do it.
