Question:

Foul smell from my mouth after extraction?

Two weeks prior to having my left 2nd lower molar removed, I was told I had an infection so took antibiotics.. the pain stopped and the infection cleared. Three days ago I had the molar removed and since then I have had a really bad breath! There is also a funny taste and my tongue is quite "tingly", on and off..could this be due to the injections I was given to numb my mouth during the procedure? I have never had a tooth removed before this is all new to me, i'm worrying about possible infection and so on. I have been rinsing my mouth out several times a day with salty water. Any opinions/advice offered would be appreciated.

  1. I just had one molar tooth extracted last saturday and i also had a bad taste in my mouth along with swelling and a knot on my jaw , i went back today and he told me the swelling and knot are nothing serious but i still had an infection because the my back wisdom tooth was bad and needed extracted along with the one in front of the one i had pulled so guess what , another trip to the dentist this monday for two more extractions , the bad taste is more than likely the gum healing , call your dentist to be sure though, i called 3 diff times , i paid the money so i figure they can answer any questions i have. Good luck

  2. try to use an all natural oral care product instead, choose the ones that contains essential oils. they are safe and effective in fighting bad breath cause.

keep the mouth clean by having a good program of oral habits like proper brushing and flossing every after meal.  drink plenty of water to keep the mouth hydrated, this can keep bacteria under control. determine first the cause of your bad breath and you will know the appropriate treatment for it with the help of your dental hygienist. visit http://www.oramd.co.uk for more bad breath cure tips.

  3. It could be from the healing area, blood leaving funny taste...

Why not phone your dentists office and talk to them (I can bet it wasn't cheap, so answering a question is the least they can do!)

  4. Hello there is is also the same which you have tonsilitis and get your tonsils removed. Im guessing its because of the samereason.

By having tonsillectomy, the patient can suffer afterwards with bad breath. This is due to the healing process in the back of the throat. It is also caused by the fluid which comes out of the infected lymphatic tissue. This fluid can in actual fact coat the teeth and inner mouth which will result in bad breath.

My Brother had his tonsils removed and he said eveything tasted like carpet for a week. Also i noticed his breath was somewhat smelly as an understatement.
