i found two baby birds fall out of its nest in my backyard, so i tried to put them back but wasn't able to. so i laid out a plastic box filled with newspaper, put them in it and set them outside away from the house. the mother comes to take care of them. then today one of the baby birds were ready to take on the real world and flew off, leaving the other one alone. i check the the bird that stayed. it seemed healthy and looked like it was ready to fly as well, but then i looked closer and saw that one of its wings weren't growing right, so it couldn't fly away. i'm not sure if it happened when it fell off of its nest or just a birth defect. i need some serious help of what to do. i am completely out of ideas on this one.

  1. call the vet and ask 4 help or give it to them

  2. think with your head and not  your heart like we farmers do. --- to put it out of its misery by feeding it to a cat

  3. Y don't u  bring it to a vet or mayB its wings hasn't fully develop yet cos it is still young.  Y should go & find out.  Anyway, I can't believe u manage 2 nurse it so well.  I really must salute u.

  4. Are you sure the bird is injured?  If the babies have feathers, they are fledglings.  Fledglings can't fly.  They're supposed to be on the ground.

Once nestlings are fully feathered, they jump from the nest (fledge).   Fledglings stay on the ground for days, while the parents continue to feed them.

Fledglings are not supposed to be in nests.  Uninjured fledglings do not need to be rescued.  They need to be left alone.

If this fledgling is truly injured and is not able to fly within a few days, you should contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.  They are not only trained and equipped experts, but they are also the only people who can legally care for native wild birds in North America.

Check this link for worldwide listings:

In the US, rehabilitation is regulated by the Federal government and State DNR (Dept of Natural Resources), or Dept of Fish and Game. Services are free to the public, as all native wild birds are protected by federal law.

There are several sites with listing of rehabbers, although the easiest way to find one is to search Yahoo! or Google for "wildlife rehabilitation + your state (try both full and abbreviated)". Also search on "DNR rehabilitation + your state".

You may be able to find a contact for a nearby rehabber through your local humane society, animal shelter, or police department.

  5. Call the local vet or animal hospital and see what they suggest.  There's probably not a lot you can do for the poor thing...if it doesn't make it, I hope you can at least be happy that you were able to get the birds out of harm's way in the first place and that the mother actually came to take care of them.  But..there is a chance that a good veteranarian might be able to fix the wing if it's broken.
