my dogs were barking like crazy so I went outside and a giant white bird was walking around in the grarage and when I went outside it did fly away. He flew and sat on my shoulder (scared me to death I thiough he was going to like attack my face or something lol) I let the garage down and now have a HUGE white bird in there. It looks like a parrot but its all white and has gray feet. I have no cluew what to feed him. I think he may be someones pet so I posted fliers around town but no one has called.

  1. if it has a mohawk looking thing and a black beek its a cakatoo and they are worth up to $2000 so take care of it and try to sell it or just keep it they are great pets

  2. Sounds like a cockatoo and they eat fruits and veggies.  At least that's all I feed my parrot and I've had it 19 years.

It may be on a seed diet so you should give it some seed also just to see what it likes best.  The pet shop will have the right mix for it.  It will need a big cage though.  Mine wanders inside and out of his cage but at night I cover the cage and shut the door.

Good luck on finding the owner and if you can't good luck with the cockatoo.

  3. cookato

    small one is cockatill

  4. he should have a leg band if he belongs to someone

  5. I think it might be an ibis.

Does it have a really long beak?

If it does, let it go at a place near water or something like that

  6. He might be a cockatoo. You need to give him food and water or he will die from dehydration - he is not a wild animal. Catch him and call your local animal shelter/RSPCA.. they should be able to take him or give you the numbers of someone who can

  7. How huge is huge?  Can you give a rough estimate of the measurements (height and weight)?

If the bird has a hooked bill and a crest (feathers on his head) it is a Cockatoo.  Does it have a band around it's leg?  If the bird is microchipped your vet should be able to do a scan and see if it is and then get the information from there, but very few parrots are  microchipped because most are banded and there's been so much controversy over the safety of using microchips in birds.

Visit www.911parrotalert.com and post a full description of the bird, even post a picture if you can.  This site also has a lost and found database you can search to determine if someone in your area lost the bird.

In the meantime go to the local pet store and get a good mix for hookbills (parrots).  The mix should contain seeds, pellets, fruits, nuts and usually dried vegetables.  Don't just give the bird one type of food because you don't know what kind of diet it was on before it was lost so offer it a variety of different things (safe things for birds).

Definitely give it plenty of fresh water and don't leave it loose in your garage!  Your garage is probably full of hidden dangers (chemicals, tools, mechanical hazards) that could kill the bird while you're waiting to find its family.

If the bird proves NOT to be a parrot but a wild bird like a seagull or something then you need to turn it loose or call the local wildlife rescue/rehabilitation center.

  8. Hm... do you think you could give a description about where you live, such as coastal, next to an ocean, etc. and perhaps provide a picture of the bird? It would help much.

  9. Its probably a cockatoo. Do these pics look familiar?
