It has feathers on top, but its underbelly is naked (pink)it walks with a limp, only stands on one leg, the other is hunched underneath its body, ive had it for and hour and have NO IDEA what to feed it,it seems to be breathing abnormally fast and im afraid it will die of malnutrition....

P.S ive heard alot of people say that you can put it back in its nest, we cant seem to find it though, so i was wondering, if we put it into a nest with the same species, will they care for it??

  1. Take it to the vet ASAP. But until then offer it some water and keep it warm. Dont let it fly around as that will get its heart rate up. It has probably had an accident to it will be scared and breathe fast but once it relaxes and realises that it is safe the breathing should calm down.

  2. aw it's a cutie! i had one like that once when the mother bird made a nest in my backyard and left a baby behind. i just fed it little pieces of rice and bread. me and my brother would watch it everyday while it attempted to walk and fly because it also walked with a limp. then one day it was able to fly away! or if you want, you could probably buy bird food from petco

  3. buy baby bird formula and a siringe for bird feeding.   the directions are on the packge

  4. most likely not, the only species of bird i know of that can pull off the "im your baby so take of me" trick is the cuckoo bird. but they are introduced when they are eggs and then kill the real baby birds, so i wouldnt reccomend putting it in another nest

  5. This bird is fully feathered, it is most likely a fledgling and has left the nest on it's own and it's parents are caring for it. It is normal for birds to leave the nest before they can fly. You need to replace it where you found it..preferably in a scrub or tree so it is relatively safe from predators, and the parents should come back to feed it. If it is unfeathered...then look for a nest and if you can find it...replace it into the nest. Do not worry about your scent being on the chick..birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell and will NOT reject a baby that has been touched. If you cannot find a nest, get the bird to a local wildlife rehab for it's best chance of survival. Also, keep in mind, it is illegal for you to try and raise this bird on your own. Look for a rehab here:

  6. Keep it warm. DO NOT FEED IT BREAD AND WATER. First off it can't feed itself, secondly this is not nutritious and will lead to malnutrition and death. Try to determine what kind of bird it is. I'm embarassed to say I took a class on birds but can't quite tell since we didn't get into baby bird plumage... my guess is a robin, but don't hold me to it. Try to call nature centers so they can properly care for it. As for food this baby needs protein, make hardboiled eggs, cut them into tiny pieces and use a tweezer to feed it... it will need to be done every few hours so be prepared to wake up and check on this little guy. Unfortunatly it is VERY hard to take care of wild baby birds and the survival rate is very low. Google some information as well. Best of luck, and if you do spot a nest put it back.
