well the lawn mower guy found a 16 inch garter snake in the yard and i know they are very good escapers and i know he is not happy in his "cage". how can i make him feel at home? wat bedding do i use, wat can i feed him (pet store crickets and meal worms?), and how can i make it so he can't escape? he's in a plastic container like a really big one like a storage one and he's inside. he has some cat food (i really don't know why they put that in there!!), a shallow thing of water, and a plastic dinosaur...? (don't ask). i know he's not happy in there so... wat can i use to make him happy? (oh by the way i live in a wooded area so i can find lots of stuff maybe cuz plastic is not the answer!!) thx

  1. u wanna make it happy PUT IT BACK you clearly dont know what your doing since i can tell you've already broken some of the basic rules

this is a wild animal and its cruel to take it from its environment. phibs/reps require very specific environments which (do u even know what species u have if u dont how do u know your keeping it correctly)

also most wild caught animals dont do well in captivity many die from the stress while other die from disease bad care that comes from a lowered immune system (caused from the stress of capture)

those "lucky" (there not really that lucky) ones that survive never have a good quality of live get ill easy have stress related behavior disorders are harder to tame and never settle down truly

if you keep this animal your being cruel immoral and evil. also what u have done is illegal in some areas

u want a pet snake learn how to care for 1 then get one from a reputable reptile shop

  2. Please let him go, wild caught snakes stress to badly to make it in captivity, he will be so unhappy he will not eat or drink right, an will end up very unhealthy and eventually die because of it

  3. Trust me and let him go

  4. you should put it back

its very hard to keep a wild snake content in captivity

a lot of times they will not eat and starve to death

  5. It is not poisonous (I seriously think people should be educated more about reptiles), but sticks and leaves and water in a container do not replicate the environment of something wild.  Let it go.  Wild reptiles will even starve themselves because they hate being contained so much.  You're bringing a snake from the wild, not a kitten from the pet store.

  6. Number 1, It is illegal to capture and keep wildlife without a permit.

You should turn it loose before it dies.  I'm sure that wouldn't make you feel very good about yourself.

  7. cat food? as EVERYONE else has said, you need to put it back. Not only b/c it's better to leave wild animals wild, but you need to know the basics on how to care for it before you get a animal. Being unprepared before you have a snake can cause you to kill it. I'm sure you may be thinking that we're being anal and you can take care of it. That may be the case, you very well may be able to, and if so, just go to a pet store and buy one there. Don't take something out of the wild.

  8. They don't eat insects! They are fish and frog eaters. Wild caught ones are often ridden with parasites and make poor pets. Let it go and buy a captive bred snake. A wild caught snake will never be happy in an aquarium.

  9. let the little thing go.  if you want a snake do some research and then go buy one.  garter snakes dont cost that much at the pet store maybe about $10.00 however the supplies will cost $70.00 - $100.00.  the snake won't last long in its current enclosure...it needs bedding and a heat source and a proper with a locking screen top.

  10. He could be poisonious or dangerous. If you do keep him meal worms come on. Hes a snake not a gecko. Feed him rodents or pinkys.

  11. LET HIM GO!! thats a wild animal, if you want a garter snake go buy one at a pet store..ARE YOU THAT CHEAP?
