Found a well on my property how do i test it?

while mowing on my property found old coffee can pulled it up found a 3"pvc pipe used a plumb bob to test depth 75' water at 25' . how can i test to see if this is a usable well (water from pipe smells good,clear, taste fine.)

Check with the board of health in your county. In some places private wells are outlawed.

Your local county health department should have test kits for about $10... some places, the first test is free.  Many building supply stores also carry a 'mail in' test kit.

Your state Department of Natural Resources may have the well on one of their maps.

75 feet is at the deep end of a 'shallow well'... you may actually have trouble supplying a whole household with just this well.

Our original well was about 60 feet deep we figure, and could not keep up with a family of 4.

We had a new one drilled to about 300 feet, using larger steel casing, and before we dropped the pump in, we had water level at just a few feet from the surface.  We never have water problems now, hehehe.

i would have a pro test it becuz my house has a well and the water tasted fine but when the well pump got replaced, the worker guy said it had bacteria in it and we had to get it reclorinated

   srry i dont know of any other way...
