  1. Search this way:

name of the county where house is at then state then the word auditor.

    Example: Summit County Ohio Auditor

This will bring up the website of the auditors office. An auditors office records deeds and would have the records of ownership for a property. You look under property records or copy of tax bills and you will find the information about the owner.

You can also call your local library.  The research librarians will look up all kinds of information for you while you are on the phone.  It's free and they are very good.

  2. Ask a title insurance company for the last recorded deed. The fee will be nominal, maybe free, and you will be certain you have the correct answer.

And by the way: 1. The tax records may not give you the name of the owner. You have to look at the deed records. 2. In most locations, deed records are kept by the county.

  3. The town hall is the only place that will be able to give you information since the home is not owned by a realtor.

  4. Most municipalities don't have that info on line.  Call the assessor's office and ask if it is and ,if not, if there's a way to get the info without making the trip.
