Found baby bunnies ?

We found a nest of baby bunnies in our yard (actually my dog did) and the mother was no where in sight. So we looked then covered them back up. When we let our dogs out to go to the bathroom they went straight for the nest and my male grabbed one (it died). We are now afraid the mother will never come back.

Should we leave them where they are, move them somewhere my dogs cant get them, or take them to the animal shelter?

  1. once the nest has been disturbed by a dog the mother will not come back...if you don't believe me what you can do is leave them there and keep the dogs away and check on them in a day or 2 once a baby has died you will know the rest will not be taken care of by mom they will look skinny...I know because this happened to my neighbor and I hand raised the last servivor in that litter...please take them to a shelter or resque

  2. wait a week and if the mom doesn't come back then if u wanna keep them you can but they don't like dogs and if you leave them outside for a while then something could take it like when i left mne outside a wolf got them so you should take them in after a week.or take them to an animal shelter.hope that helps

  3. the mother may or may not come back. dont move the rabbits just keep them there. to see if the mother will come back, put on some gloves and find 2 small sticks and cross the over the nest. if the mother abndoned them the sticks will still be in the smae place tommorow morning. if she is still feeding them, the sticks will be moved. if they are still there you must go very quickly to the store and get kitten formula or if you can rabbit formula. get a little bottle and you take them to your house and you put them in a blanket and a basket and then you must feed them 4-6 times a day because the kitten milk is not as rich as the mothers milk. you must keep them warm and for them to feel safest they should be in a dark place away from your dogs.

they may not survive. that is very normal. I hope I helped!

  4. leave them alone. and keep the dogs away from the nest. Mom will come back.  The mom usually comes in the late evening, stays all night and goes away to hide during the day letting the babies sleep

  5. Animal shelter

  6. Baby rabbits grow very quickly. Leave them where they are and keep your dogs away from them. It only takes 2-4 weeks for the babies to leave the nest. You do not say if they have their eyes open or not.

If you can keep your dogs on leashes for a week or two when they need to go outside, that would be best. You can move the babies to an area where the dogs can't get them, but you can't move them too far. Perhaps you could block the dogs into one part of the yard?

Mom will come back to them, but they only feed the babies a few times a day so you might not see her. You can check on the babies tomorrow morning to make sure they have been fed. Fed babies will have rounded bellies.

If they have not been fed, you will need to find a wildlife rehabber for them. It is hard to hand feed baby rabbits because they require such a rich formula.

  7. I actually found an awesome answer to this at http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-C... This person successfully saved a nest of baby bunnies, and there are instructions on how to make a cheap fence so that your dogs will leave the nest alone but the mommy bunny can still get at her babies. Good luck!
