Found cigarettes butts in our backyard..!?

Question

None of my family members are smokers..We are assuming that the neighbour have been tossing those cigarettes over the fence,...in our Backyard..!!? We were never introduce or spoken to them before....

How shall we deal with this situation?? Should my husband or me...go over and speaks to them personally...OR shall we contact the House Management and let them deal with this..

I am so afraid...of any fires that might sparked off due..to the high temps that we've been having...?? Please advise...Thanks.

OMG!  The horror of finding cigarette butts on your side of the fence!!!!  Are you okay now?  Do you need a sedative?  SO WHAT?? For Goodness sake!  Count your blessings if that is all you have to worry about!  They ain't nosey!  They don't party into the wee hours of the morning and they don't have howling dogs at your window.  If the most they do is toss a butt or two over the fence you must be worry-free then to have to think about it.  

Now go take up knitting or something Geeez

Contact the House Management and tell them what you found.

I think you should go over and ask them about the cigarette butts.  If they deny it, just tell them you are trying to figure out where it came from because you saw something smoldering over there one day and had to put it out.  Go on about the drought and fearing a lawn fire.  See if that will stop them.

Otherwise speak with your house manager. It could be dangerous and also it is disgusting! Eww!

Try to find out who is doing it and speak to them diplomatically.  I've been in the same situation.  It was my neighbors and I politely asked them if they would please not throw butts in my yard anymore. They apologized and even came over & picked them up. Of course, people are different so there are no guarantees you will have the same results.

If you are sure its the neighbors then throw them back in their yard each time till it stops.

If there is a manager of the place I would talk to him/her.  Tell them your concerns and have them handle it.  It's what they get paid for.  The same thing has happened to me.  Good luck.

You don't know for sure, do you? I have the same problem and I suspect it is the man whose wife sends him out if he wants to take a smoke. But they could also be blown into my yard by the wind?

I don't know and I don't care. I do not allow rude people to spoil my happy days :)

you and your husband should first go over and speak to them if that does not work then you contact the house management

I suggest going to your neighbor directly and ASKING them if these are theirs.  Don't go over there to accuse.  Let them have a chance to apologize.

Also, if it really isn't your neighbor and someone in your home has secretly started smoking or these are coming from someone else, you will end up looking like an ***.

Either way, asking and not accusing them will let them know that you're aware of the butts coming over the fence, and it should make them stop (if it's them).

If they don't stop, go to the management.

Edit: Again, Classy Chick, you are far from deserving of that name.  You really should change it to something like "Condescending Judgemental Crazy Chick."

My neighbours did the same to me, just throw them back over the fence, no more worries or problems......don't make this a situation cause it's not worth it.

I would (both of you) politely go next door and ask if there are any smokers that may visit sometimes.  Maybe it's a guest of theirs and they aren't even aware of it.  It could be one of their children smoking and they aren't aware of it.  I know it's easy to get pissed about it b/c that is an awful thing to do to a neighbor's yard. I would also mention you have children in your home and you're afraid one of them could pick it up and start a fire or even worse get burned themselves.  It's going to be awkward no doubt but you have to confront them or it will continue.

This behavior is rude, crude and inexcusable, report them as confrontation with folks who think like this is more likely to arouse belegerence.
