Is this some kind of superstition or old wives-tale or just a coincidence. The door plates are original to the house. I believe the area I live in was founded mostly by Norwegians and Swedish and some Scots and Irish.

  1. It is for prosperity to enter the home.  Copper wheat pennies have always been considered good luck.  No, it was not put there for someone else to find, either, nor for spacing of the wood, etc.  It's Irish.  Just like putting a copper wheat penny in your "penny loafers", its for good luck.

  2. It could possibly have been a charm used  to bring money into the home.  I have a citrine crystal in the northern most point of my home for that reason.

  3. a kid probally did it.

  4. I might just be for a quick repair.

  5. Do you mean the part you walk over, on the floor of the door opening?

They might be original, but that doesn't mean they were not repaired. It might have been there for a shim or spacer, to level it out.

  6. i think who ever did it wanted someone to find it in the future. Ive done it b4. when i moved from my old house i wrote on a piece of paper and shoved it my lift up ceiling. Its kinda cool to find stuff like that lots of yrs later.
