Found stray hurt bird! What do i do?

I found it on the street.

It's always lying on its side & it always keeps its right foot close to its body. I think its leg may have been hurt, but im not sure.

It also won't move its neck, & its turned an odd way. I think it's hurt there, too.

Im keeping it in a box [not closed] & i've left food & water where it can easily reach it, but it won't eat or drink. Do i have to force him to eat? If so, how? I don't want to hurt it more than it already is.

& what else should i do?

**I'd be more comfortable with the answers of experienced people.

I also put some branches in its box to make it feel more comfortable, & im keeping him beside my balcony door.

  1. if there a nature centers around. i would take it there.  i kno the ones around me (in ohio) rescue wild animals.

but if not try taking 2 a vet.

    good luck!

  2. I've attempting just what you are doing right now. Sadly, the bird I was attemping to save died. =/ I looked up on the enternet on what to feed it and stuff and found out that it is illegal to host a wild bird in your house. =O Which I was suprised, I thought that they would want you to help a hurt animal. But anyways. Sounds like this bird is pretty badly hurt. There may be nothing else you can do. Perhaps take it to the animal shelter or vet?

  3. Take it 2 the vet. If you live in Australia they won´t charge you. They will prob take it 2 a wildlife park until its old enough or well enough 2 let it go.Thats the best thing 4 the bird & you will know that it will be looked after well.

  4. Is the bird feathered?  Can you tell if it is a juvenile or an adult? Keeping it warm and in a quiet place is best.  You can offer a soaked dogfood to a texture of oatmeal....   You can go to the starlingtalk website for all you need to know.  There you will find many knowledgeable members willing to help you along.....  NEVER feed worms and NEVER put liquid in a birds mouth....

if it is an adult you can leave a dish of water and of moist dog food or even dry ground dog food.  being warm and free of stress is the most important right now but also birds cannot go very long without food or water

  5. Take it to your local vet.  If you call animal control they won't come.  Your best bet really is to take it to a vet.

  6. Call your local vet or animal services, they'll help you better than random people on Yahoo can.

  7. Actually, the absolute best thing is to take it into the ASPCA or your local vet. You could actually scare it by having it around you & it could really hurt itself more.

Your intentions are great & to be commended! A lot of people would just leave it there. :)

  8. once me and my family found a hurt bird and we used our first aid kit but my sister is a nurse so i dont know what she did  and dont force feed  it it should eat by its  self  if not take it to the vet

  9. Get the bird to a local wildlife rehab...it will cost you nothing.  They are the only ones that can properly assess this bird to see if it's injuries can be treated.  Look here for one near you:

  10. if it is a baby do not feed water! it can choke and die or drown and u not even knowing .....give it soaked cat or dog food! and make Sher that the cat or dog food is not completely drenched! just damp and moist!

  11. feed it, give it water...try keeping the stray bird until it gets better...
